Hello everyone,

I kind of know the answer to my question: How many words can you pen down a day, depends on a variety of factors and circumstances. However, when you have the time to write and everything is going as best as you want it, what's your word count, generally speaking? I can usually come up with a few hundred words a day, when I put in three-four hours, but my writing is coupled with research at the same time.

Thanks,

ED

It all really depends on the circumstances around me. If I have peace and quiet to myself and I'm motivated and it's pure writing, I can finish a first draft chapter in between 30 minutes to an hour. Then I go back, reread, revise, and edit. All assuming, of course, I already know what I'm going to write. I also type 80 wpm, which helps. And my chapters are averaging around 3K.

I tend to write about 1500-2000 words a day (10kb), which seems to usually take about an hour or so. Some days I could write more, some days I'd rather write less, but it's best for me to limit myself on both ends so I have somewhere to pick up from the next time I write.

I like to write the same as tehuti88, but if pressed I can do upwards of 8000. Then of course there was the time I got a full request on an uncompleted MS. Yeah, didn't quite keep track of how many words a day it took to finish it in 3 days, but it was a lot.

But I way prefer the 1500 - 2000 words a day thing.

My daily average is 8k a day when I'm writing on a new project. Rewrites average somewhat less, at about 6k per day.

Probably around 5,000 in between dog walking, eating and ironing on a good day. At that rate a fair amount is heavily edited later though.

I'd say 1000 words a day. Of course there are days that I can't seem to write anything worth a damn so I revise; others my fingers are flyin' and I can do 3000.

I write historical fic. so I must do tons of research...

It depends on whether I'm doing a first draft or a rewrite. If it's Draft #1, I can usually cruise along at about 2500 - 3000 words a day. On a rewrite draft, the count is a lot lower -- somewhere between 500 and 1000. At least, that's what I've been averaging on my current rewrite. On weekends I generally do two writing sessions instead of one, and so I can get around 2000 words on a Saturday or Sunday.

1000 - 2000, depending on how motivated I am, that takes me one to three hours, together with research and all that.

250. Sometimes way up around 300 if I'm feeling it.
