I chose to POD publish because I had a book directed at a small niche audience. It’s a sequel to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, called Conviction. I knew an audience existed for sequels to Austen’s work, but I didn’t think it was a large enough an audience to make it worth my while to spend hundreds in postage seeking a publisher. Mainstream publishers have brought out only a handful of books in this niche genre, usually after they have already been self-published. So POD seemed right for me.
Anyway, I broke even and started to turn a profit after two months of sales, but now, my goal is to break the 800 sales mark within my first year of sales. (That means by May 30!) I know it may sound small to many a published author here, but it’s been my goal. Why 800? I don’t know. It just sounded like a good, rounded number.
I’m pleased to report that I am now just 40 books away from my goal!
