View Full Version : I wanna know who's been consuming my share!

I watched one of the food channel programs last night and heard that "the average American eats 37 quarts of ice cream each year." Before that I either heard or read that "the average American eats 44 pizzas each year," and "the average American downs 65 hot dogs each year."

The list of things that "average American" consumes is getting longer and longer. Who the hell is that person?

Not me . . . if I ate/used/consumed all those things I'd be hell of a lot heavier than I am now.

So, how many of you AW'rs are eating my stuff?

heh, well I'm english but I'm going to stick my oar in anyway

I estimate that I eat: 7 pizzas
10 tubs of ice cream
0 hotdogs
in a year.

I don't get takeout much and never, ever touch a mickeyDs. Don't think I don't pig out though. My chocolate stats are high (I'm definitely consuming someone's share of crunchies and terry's chocolate orange...mmmm) and I'll have the odd biccie! But mostly I live on toast, baked potatoes and spag bol, with the odd trip to a noodle bar if I'm good. Bo-ring, I know!

I'm guilty of the hot dogs and pizzas, but I'm lactose intolerant so I don't eat much ice cream.

Man, I know what you mean. I hear those stats all the time--and it's certainly not me. I hate hotdogs, I'm lucky if I eat a bowl of ice cream in a year, and I order maybe three pizzas every six months--which equals six a year.

I don't know who the fat bastard is, but he's eating my share as well. :D

I had some gelato, yesterday. One scoop in a cone. Does that count towards my ice cream allotment?

I'm eating all the ice cream! I've been going through a thing of Breyers Chocolate Chip ice cream every week for the last three or four months now!

But, I eat pizza maybe once a month and I don't eat any hot dogs.

Of course, I'm far from the Average American in pretty much every regrad. I'm only good for skewing averages. XD

I eat way more pizza and hot dogs than the average American...or even the average bear. But then again, I'm Canadian.

you've never seen these "average Americans" because they are too freakin' big to get out of their houses.

This is kind of like all those self-help books and videos that say, "Just 15 minutes a day!" And if you add up all the 15 minutes, your day would last a week and a half.

I eat entire frozen pizzas for snacks. I weigh 145 lb at 6'0.

But I'd never eat that many hot dogs. Yikes. They aren't even good.

Brats, however--I'd eat loads of those if I thought to buy them often enough.

I make my own pizzas using Naan bread.
I only eat 4/5 tofu dogs/ year.
I eat 1 gal of ice-cream/ year.

There must be a few women out there who are eating my share, but are leaving me with the bigger butt!! Not fair!!

Pizza? I probably dominate that field, although I have been trying to cut back. Hot dogs? Zero. I've decided to completely stop eating pork, and I've never tried/wanted to try beef/turkey dogs. I'm definitely under a tub of ice cream as well, since it's once in a great while that I decide to have a bowl.

Pizza, coffee and muffins are what I go overboard on.

I resent that. 44 pizzas is less than one a week. 65 hot dogs barely more than 1.25 a week. Hardly anything when you consider that there are 1092 meals in a year.

That average person is probably 40-60 pounds overweight and does less than 20 minutes of exercise a week.

Yeah, try taking the dose of NyQuil designed for the "Average American". Holy shit, that knocked me out for 2 days.

We go to the Y three or more days a week, I go for a 2 miles walk at lunch, and I walk 5 flights of stairs twice daily.

I mouse almost a mile a day. Does that count?

Oh, I know where all the ice cream is going. Into my husband. He's an ice cream fiend!

Okay, so I might be eating an itty bitty bit of it too. :)

I eat 5-6 pints of ice cream a week. That comes to 130 - 156 quarts a year. I eat each one with a fork and in one sitting as a snack after supper. I am your offender there, taking your share. In fact, I probably eat everyone's share that is not making the quota.

I eat pizza once a week at least, sometimes more (whole 12-14" by myself). That comes to 52 per year minimum. Obviously, I am using some of someone's quota here too.

I do not eat hot dogs (just don't like them).

I am 5'5" tall and weigh in at about 125 lbs. (varies 120 - 130)

I am thinking all the fat is in the hot dogs....?

"the average American eats 44 pizzas each year," "

Do they mean 44 boxes of pizza..or 44 slices..Because I am probably that average person on both accounts. GUILTY!

Though, I eat on average 1 hotdog a year (some years none at all). Also, I'd be surprised if I eat 1 quartz of ice cream a year. I just have an occasional ice cream bowl once in a blue moon.

Not everyone eats pizzas with meat on them.

I agree. Pizza can be a healthier choice depending on where you get. The pizza from my deli is home-made style. It's very fresh and healthy if loaded with veggies. Also, I never top it with meat. Compare that with pizza from Pizza Hut...it's pretty greasy and they add the toppings sparingly.

I eat at least 30 kg of chocolate a year. No, I'm not kidding. Average in Switzerland is 13 kg. And I'm eating for the guy next oor who hates chocolate too.

I eat about 15 Hot Dogs.

50 Lasagnas and 50 Pizzas.

Any other questions? (I'm only 120lbs or about 53 kg and no I'm no dwarf ;))

Ice Cream. Well: 12 Kg.

Anyone know the cheese average?

Not guilty of scoffing your share, GeorgieB, it's just that cheese in France is a must eat. But then, red wine is a must drink, but even I can't compete with the locals - hic.

This is true, but these things were not in question. I eat all the American share of these three items. Sometimes I blend them and have a shake.

What's so wrong with pizza?

NOTHING! It is nature's most perfect food, representing everything you need from the food pyramid. It's got your grains, your meats, your dairy, your oils, your veggies, and if you get it with pineapple, your fruits.

It's a square meal in a round pan.

We have pizza every Friday night, so that's one pizza a week.

I don't eat hot dogs but my family does. Probably once a week. Maybe every other week.

Ice cream? I eat popsicles these days, but my family loves ice cream. In the summer, I buy it every week just about.

I might eat a slice of pizza when we have it..how often is that? Maybe 3 times a year if we're lucky. Ice cream? don't care much for it. Hot dogs? can't stand them. But I am eating my share and several other peoples when it comes to fruit and veggies. I guess they can have my share of the other junk :tongue
