I just need to vent/cry/whine. I've spent the last few days in varying degrees of pain. It's gotten to the point where I gave in and reached for the meds (and I usually suck it up since meds are only likely to give me more issues since this is a long term deal). (and painkillers aren't that helpful for this pain. Figures)

Without getting into the details; I've had enough. I'm fed up, stretched thin, and have to shape every thought around 'OW.' I think I'm going to quit my job (really not fun to go to work and beg the pain not to get worst... and it's only a PT gig.)

On the bright side I have completed the first draft of my WIP. Now if the pain would back off I might feel like moving forward on that synopsis...

Oi
Christina, waiting for the meds to work

Honey - I'm so sorry. I've lived with chronic pain for about 30 years. I've finally found a neurologist - a pain management specialist - who LISTENED.

oh, gosh. oh, gosh, oh gosh. (..........)

I don't know why you hurt but I read this book (really Unique? just one?)

Muscular Retraining for Pain Free Living.
When I remember to apply what I learned - it helps. I know the pain won't ever go away completely. But with various things I've learned over the years - we can overcome. Truly.

Take your meds when you need to and explore everything. What works for one may not work for someone else.

Blessings.

I feel your pain. :( Well, no, not really - I feel my own, but I sympathize. I've also got long-term pain (genetic thing, no cure, no real treatment) and painkillers don't work for me. It really really sucks. :(

Far as I'm concerned, whine all you like. A whole bunch of us might just wind up joining you. :D

I rather enjoy a nice whine-fest and may join in on occasion. I'm old enough that something is always hurting, sometimes bad enough that it makes me nuts, other times at a low level which I can ignore if sufficiently distracted.

Can we manage to whine in unison? Because that would be pretty impressive.

Anyway, I'm sorry we can't do more than sympathize, but you've got that, and our very careful, not-too-hard hugs, too.

Maryn, wincing on your behalf

Yeah, Maryn, I have no idea how old you are... My pain has nothing to do with age in that I'm not THAT old, but my stuff is degenerative, so getting older makes it worse, but I've got the joints of someone two or three times my age, so... Meh. I've been in pain since I was a child.

It doesn't surprise me. Not one bit. Sometimes they use it for that (abdominal pain) but I think whether or not it worked would depend on why it hurt in the first place.

I have 3 different kinds of meds. Depends on which part is hurting.

Star to the right and straight on till morning.
I remember back in 1989 when I was told that fibromyalgia was a myth and that CBEV was also a fad.

Today they have medications for it but in the years since my first onset, I've learned to manage my pain. And the new medications have t.h.e. scariest side effects. (really really not worth it)

I do use a combination of nutrition, exercise, meditation and sleep to control my pain. I have learned that certain things naturally relieve pain.

I had an Orthopedic Surgeon scold me once for ignoring the pain in my knee for four years. I had torn the cartilage. He said and I quote:

"Young lady, pain is your friend. Don't you dare ignore it again. It tells us when something is wrong."

The thing is, I've learned to look through it, make my mind make it go away. I'm allergic to most pain medications that are prescription and I use the over the counter as little as possible. It might sound hokey but you CAN think (mediate through it) so it is at least bearable.

And one of the best things for my pain, a good moderate but doable work out which involves me pushing through and voicing my frustrations and anger and then in the shower letting myself have a good long cry. Does wonders really.

We were supposed to be in key? I was just letting the pain do the vocals... But maybe we should have regular practices to be sure...

I'm waiting for the pain to fade enough to try some yoga. It sucks when the pain radiates from the core of my being. Meditation might help though, I'll give it a go...

Cheers again,
Christina

Keep the chin up and don't let the pain get you down. I'll send you some Irish spells to ease the spells.

More pain-killing vibes headed your way. And having spent the last eight months having to work around an inflamed wrist tendon, I know a little of what you're going through. (It's slowly getting better, but not entirely, yet.)

The neurologist may be a good bet. A friend of mine finally went to one after months of suffering with a pinched nerve in her neck and shoulder, and wished she hadn't put it off as long as she did. That doctor helped her so much.

Codeine for some people makes things worse and can make you nauseous. A neuro might help. But whining? Works for me! I'm good at it, I can teach you the proper technique. It starts softly, intermittently. Slowly builds. Hits a plateau and stays until the pain is more bearable.

Gentle hugs.

I will complete a play this year! I will!
Christina, hope you feel better soon, or are at least able to cope with the pain a little better. I've never had chronic pain so I have no idea what you guys are all going through, but I very much sympathise.

Thanks gals.

I think someone left the short end of the fuse near the sparks in my mind. Must meditate and pretend all is well (or scream my head off and then meditate.)

I see a specialist Tuesday and I'm afraid it won't go anywhere, but at least now I know I can see a neurologist.

Back to whining- I called in and quit my job. Not a chance in heck I can work through this.
One way or another I'm gonna write tomorrow though. My friend was nice enough to chat with me about my novel earlier so now I've got some stuff to think about. Anyone good with plot arcs? Mine are kinda squiggly lines at the end...

Cheers,
Hugs,
Christina

Christina, I hope your pain goes away soon. I know how chronic pain is. I injured my back about 12 years ago and sometimes the pain is horrid. I've got three different medications I take. I also pick what medicine will work depending on what's hurting. :Hug2:

I quit working full time fourteen years ago, went to self-employed where I controlled when I worked and for how long. Then moving to Sri Lanka, I don't work at all. Well I do - but only when I feel like it. I'd rather be writing my fiction than the non-fiction, but the non-fiction got me my new monitor, so it's good for that, too. :) But physically, I'm no longer capable of holding down a regular job and won't ever be able to again, so I'm with you on that score.

I'm still trying to find a doctor here who's heard of what I have. Freak of nature that I am and all that. I'd love to see a neurologist for the neuropathy whatchamacallit that I have going on, but what's the point if they don't even know what I'm talking about? :D

Feeling better this morning. Looks like some venting and meditation (and some Ambien CR) does wonders. Now to just stay this way.

Joyce, I can somewhat imagine the horrors of back pain. I hope I never have to endure it, but I'm glad you made it through and found a drug combo that helps. Is there yoga or similar that targets back injury pain?

LM, I think self employment is the way for me to go. Bully the vet degree. I need to find something I can do on my time.
I think you should lure in a doctor and hold them hostage just for fun :) Ever read Misery? ;)

Watch out Maryn- I might have to get my hat out and then you'll be doubly jealous.

If you could whine to the tune of 'Everybody Hurts', I'd be impressed. :D

Keep the chin up and don't let the pain get you down. I'll send you some Irish spells to ease the spells.
Do you mean the Guinness? Drink enough, and you won't care about the pain. :D

I find that small doses of foul language as needed also help. Especially when you pop your wrist tendon loud enough to heard across the room.
