My dad always called it The Angry Wasp because we always ate at the drive-in and the wasps attacked us from their evil lair in the trash bins.

ETA: The Drive-In was before the Drive-Through. They brought the food to the car, put the trays in the windows and we ate there.

We had a drive in right across the street from us in Toronto...I loved watching the roller skaters. My cousin once came over and my brother and I were using A&W straws for pea-shooters. They were wrapped in paper even way back then. My dumbass cousin went in and asked the counter girl for "an A&W pea-shooter". Laughs! She gave him one, though.

He was court martialed and shot for losing a ship on what should have been a three hour tour.

I always got a Baby Burger. Never graduated to a Teen Burger because the restaurants were closing down by the time I was old enough.

But I do remember this logo on the mugs:

There was another root beer drive-in chain called Dog n Suds (http://www.dog-n-suds.com/page.php?3). It was so good, we gave it the affectionate nickname Arf n Barf.

And there was a time (I vaguely remember) when Chick-Fil-A's were only in malls. Now they're lots of places, but they're still closed Sunday.

I am pained to discover no root beer in Ireland.

Have you tried searching in any specialist food shops? There is a place about twenty minutes from here that sells American foods at outrageous prices. If I'm near there I'll often pop in and buy a root beer or grape soda.

Check to see if there are any oriental supermarkets near you. There was a place called Oriental City about half an hour from here, but they were meant to be closing down at the end of May. Last time I was there they were selling cases of A&W for half price. I bought 2, but the girl only rang one through the register so I got mine for 75% off.

I still have 10 cans left. If you buy a ticket on Ryanair from Dublin to Luton, I'm only ten minutes from the airport. If you hurry I might save you a can.

There is actually a new A&W opening around the corner from my house. They are just building it in one of those new superstore malls.

There's an A&W in the Short Hills Mall. It's the only place I can afford to go in there.

There is one near us that is a drive in. They wear roller skates and come up to your car to take your order. I imagine they only do that during the summer.

There hasn't been an A&W in this burg since the one across the street gave it up so long ago I can't remember.

But I do remember dunking Fritos in root beer.
