I received my first rejection slip yesterday, but the reason was was that it wasn't appropriate. The genre was, but obviously not the age bracket. Personally, I find 9-12 a horrible age bracket because 12 year olds read completely different things from 9 year olds. But whatever. I would like some magazines or anthologies that accept young adult or even fantasy short stories. I'm going to assume that anyone from 14 and above could understand it. Bascially, I think what made it inappropriate was that the main character died, and you had to assume there was no happy ending, which I guess a 9 year old wouldn't be able to do. I don't know. I had a highschool reading level when I was 9!
