Booksense

Another thing that I've done that seems to help is join the Booksense network. For those that don't know, Booksense is a national association of independant book sellers. I joined up with them not only because I wanted them to carry my books, but also because I see it as a way to funnel sales into home communities. The way it works is, you provide a link on your site, and when a person visits, they put in their zip-code. It then finds an independant bookstore in their area. This way, there's no more of a headache than ordering from Amazon, but the sales are not going into the megachain's pocket. They're going into a local shop.
