What words do you love? Rationale, explanation or any story associated certainly welcome but hardly mandatory.

I don't have much rationale for loving the words I love, except maybe their sound in combination with their meaning.

I love

macabre
ghastly
BALLS !!!
balderdash
craptastic
fubar
ninny
degenerate
dissolute
shifty
sly
oaf
lout
sot

jeez, I think I detect a theme here.

next?

:D

we have a word around the house, shplaah. I don't know how we came up with it. It's a coverall for general mild despair, annoyance, frustration, irritation, aggravation. It escalates to vocklshplaah in cases where merited. We saw vokl or vockl skis, can't remember which, in the last winter Olympics, and it just fit the bill. VOCKLSHPLAAH !!!!!!!!!!! Dammitall !!!!

lein- it means little or small in German. Almost everything that I like or enjoy gets the word lein added to the end of it.
Examples in German: Tischlein (little table), Fraulein (young lady), and Geißlein (kid)

girgirl- that's what I call my outside kitty sometimes. Her official name is Tabby. :LilLove:

I love the word ......Bit.......

Use it all the time to describe everything, its simple, makes no illusions that it's more than it should be yet everyone who hears it understands its comparison... Ex: A little BIT of love, a BIT like chocolate, it was a BIT like this or like that... Just a little BIT please. She's a BIT of a prude, he's a BIT of an ass, he definitly BIT off more than he can chew, I taste a bit of onion in this or that, it's a bit like that, so on and so forth....A truly universal little word that always bails me out of any situation. How could you love another word,,,That would be a BIT like cheating now woudn't it???????

"vintage". I love the sound of it; I love the images it conjures up for me. It's definitely my favourite word.

I also love the word "warmth". Makes me smile.

Preternatural. It's so deliciously Lovecraftian.

Awhile back, I was reading a bit of fanfiction (yeah, I do, sometimes) that was well into the ultraviolet range of purple prose, and happened upon the phrase "rising in silhouette above the daisinabsolute silence." I thought I'd happened upon a strange but cool new word for a moment until I realized it was supposed to be "above the dais in absolute silence." I was actually a little disappointed.

MtM mentioned swivet, a favorite around our house when we were kids, which made me think of another, tizzy. According to my mother we were forever getting into a swivet or a tizzy over one thing or another. Love those words.

Feckless. It's just a perfect description of a few people I know.

I also like indignant.

And "fool." As in "Stop it, fool!" I feel like Mr. T when I say that.

daymare

I invented it because eyes wide open nightmares deserved representation. You can day dream, and you can dream at night, so why not a daymare?

Imagination runs rampant around here. Or is that you run rampant through imaginations around here. I'm not sure which.
