AW. A very nice place!
I have to put a fictitious postal address in my WIP.
Are there addresses set aside for this purpose,
similar to the way 555 telephone numbers are?
(The postal address belongs to one of my background characters,
who lives in Virginia.)
Thanks in advance.

If you make up the town, you can always then look to be sure there's not a real one with that name.

Or . . . use a real town and then use Google maps to help pick out a fictional street address.

Here's one for you.

1155 Woodmont Street, Lynchburg, Va.

There is no such street in Lynchburg according to Google.

Do you have to put the town name in it, Anis? Remember the address for the Munsters? It was 1313 Mockingbird Lane, but I don't recall the address ever having a town name attached to it.

Just a thought. I hope it helps. :)

They lived in Mockingbird Heights. No state given.

Now, where did Beaver live? ;-)

thanks, Sean.
I have to put a full postal address in, including a zip code.
One for Lynchburg should be easy to find.
(The background character is receiving a letter.)

:) Oops! Thank you for the correction.

As for Beaver, I wish I knew. Good shows, both. :)
I don't know about Leave It to Beaver, but you can now download old episode of The Munsters and other old TV shows from Amazon ($1.99 per episode).

What I have done before that required a real town/city and real street was that I found a real small street/cul-de-sac, created a large street number (eg. 1234 Tiny Cres...) To further ensure this address didn't exist, I ran it through the zip code finder on USPS.com.

Besides USPS, there are many websites that host zip code information, like www.geonames.org. I tried 98765 and it claimed such zip code didn't exist. Beware though, data on these sites may not be 100% up-to-date, not even the USPS one.
