Today the safety guy came up to my work area and asked:

"Have you see Tom Sorg?"

It was noisy, and I didn't hear the last name clearly. So I said:

"Yeah, I think Mark Twain wrote about him."

The safety guy did kind of a double take and rolled his eyes and said, "Very funny."

Now, if I had had ten more seconds to think of a better response, I might have said, "Yeah, last I saw he was on a raft with Injun Joe."

Tee hee hee. At least he got it. I'm always making jokes based on obscure references that people don't recognize. Then I have to decide if it's amusing that they don't get it or if I'm just an idiot.

I came up with even better ones later on, such as:

"Yeah, I saw him with Huckleberry Finn not an hour ago."

"I think he's getting ready to paint a fence."

Isn't he stuck in that cave with Becky Thatcher?

"The bastard's in the rafters of the church watching his own funeral, if you could believe that."
