Well, that really sucks.

Even though he was politically at the opposite end for me.

It sucks.

Funny man.

A little story from the Thrilly archives.

I was an extra on Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

At the sound stage, we had bathrooms.

One time, I was at the urinal and in walks Carlin.

Will he go into the stall?

He's a big star.

Nope.

Saddles right up to me at the next urinal, says how you doing and takes a leak.

Just like a regular dude.

And no....you pervs...I did not sneak a peak.

R.I.P. Urinal buddy and funny man.

Great minds and all that, eh, blackbird? :)

I'm very bummed about this, though 71 is certainly a goodish age if you've gotta go. I just wish he didn't. :(

Two threads on the same subject started in the same minute. Even in P&CE we can agree this is news worth posting.

Yuppers. Carlin was a gem, and I think he'll be missed by all kinds of people. He was funny as hell.

I'm sure one of our modly types will end up merging the threads before long, though. :)

I say we throw caution to the wind and let two threads live as a testament to the man.

SOme people deserve two threads.

Russert.

Carlin.

Why not? In the end it's the same bandwith anyway.

Thank you.

It's okay with me. Impeccable logic, Billy.

*bows*

:D

While we're at it, then...

Who wants to share their favorite Carlin "funny"? I think that would be awesome. Youtube, from memory, whatever ya gots is good with me...

No. Way.

Damn - he used to perform in New Brunswick all the time. One of my favorites of all time. A genius.

RIP, George.

You will be missed. :( :( :(

football/baseball - absolutely.

the mystery food you find in the back of the fridge - "Could be peaches, could be cake."

seven dirty words

and this little ditty:

ta ra ra,
boom de ay
did you get yours today?
I got mine yesterday
that's why I walk this way

"People like it when you're topical."

I love this line.

Let's not forget, as writers (well, some of us, probably not me), that Carlin was astutely interested in words, and the silliness they could sometimes cause all of us. As in my favorite line of his, in commenting on his difficulties with TV censorship: "You can prick your finger, but you can't finger your prick."

Well, they say they come in threes...

RIP, George Carlin. Funny, funny man.

ETA: share the funny...

My favorite is the seven dirty words. There are several chain mails going around on the internet that are credited to him, too, about word usage. As blacbird said, he was always examining the language.

Unfortunately, comedy does not get the respect it deserves.

I would argue that being a stand up comic is the hardest artform in the entertainment industry.

Not only must you be a brilliant writer, yes, that's right, I said writer. You must have a musician's timing, a psychologist's understanding of human behavior, and a reporter's pulse on the current 'mood' of the nation and audience.

He was a true genius in the Webster Dictionary sense of the word. A social genuis responsible for a portion of America's culture. He was the voice of the disenfranchised, the common man, and common sense.

He will be missed and I doubt anyone will be able to adequately fill the void that he will leave.

Mel...
