My summer gig is to take folks out to let whales see them.

This guy saw 30 tourists today. He's a 68 foot Sperm Whale, a gentle guy, but bloody HUGE :)

Behind you! Boo.
That's very cool. I saw a small group of mother and baby humpbacks once off the coast of Hawaii and it was spectacular. Impressive animals indeed.

I want to ride one.

Wait your turn. :tongue

Great pictures!

I took my mom whale watching in the San Juan Islands a few years back. Then I completely ignored her in favor of sitting with the naturalist. We flipped through her photo album of saddle markings (I think that's what they're called?) so we could identify each orca. It's one of my favorite memories of the Pacific Northwest.

Years ago I went whalewatching off Provincetown in Rhode Island. This humpback blew bubblenets and dance on his/her tail about 6 feet from the boat. Glorious animal!

I hate whalehunting btw. Japan's 'kill 5000 for study' is a crock.

Well, I said I hoped to see him again, and there he was, in the same place as yesterday. And I got the picture I wanted as a bonus :)

A different kind of whale this time... a Fin Whale.

These guys are nearly 100 feet long, and cruise along like submarines.

And to bring this thread full circle, I've posted a five minute video of the sperm whale that's in the earlier pictures.

This vid was taken yesterday... he was just hanging out, very relaxed and not bothered by the fact that we were within five feet of him. He blew on the surface for a while, then stood on his tail, with only his nostrils above the water, and just hung there...

This is going to keep me happy on long winter nights :)
