View Full Version : Does anyone notice anything weird about this forum? I think it's dying

Has anyone noticed a lot less members active in this forum? It used to be crazy when I first joined, now, it's getting a bit boring

12/2007-5/2008

Novels (Average 49 viewing.)
AW round table (Average 15 viewing.)
SYW (10-15 viewing.)
Office Party (Average 76 viewing.)Present.

Novels(15-21 viewing.)
AW Roundtable (Average 6.)
SYW (Occasionally 17-23 viewing.)-
Office Party (Average 25 viewing)Please note that these are just estimates. It's based on what I've seen here since I joined. As you can see, the number of visitors decreased. I was wondering if anyone noticed that.

What should we do? We can't let a beautiful community like this become like those inactive bunch.

It's summer for most of us, so people go and do other things like take vacations with their kids. There are various times where activity is up and down throughout the year. It will bounce back, never fear.

80% of all statistics are made up. :)

I would say time of day and the fact that it's summer and many members are also parents might contribute to lower numbers during certain times of the day. That's all.

Silver King
06-17-2008, 04:54 AM
I've also noticed that trend lately. I've also noticed it a number of other times before as well. Summer months and holidays are generally slower around here. It was very slow this past weekend, with a low of four people in Office Party at one point, and I made up twenty-five percent of the members viewing the forum.

You may not have noticed, but peak times are usually during the day, when some folks log on from their work computers. But don't worry, I won't tell their bosses they're goofing around on AW instead of working.

Not to worry Blue. AW is like the tobacco industry. Too many folk are hopelessly addicted. Some may quite for awhile, but are sucked back in from the nicotene-like tractor beam of delight.

Perhaps we should report him to Mac. I don't know about letting him mod a part of the boards called Office Party if he actually wants work done.

Advice--the giving of it, the receiving of it. Funny stories--the telling of them, the listening to them. Information--the sharing of it, the use of it. They all have kind of a half life, very intense and interesting on the first cycle, a little less so on the second, and so on. Hence, if your data are correct, I'm not surprised. I'd be surprised the other way. But that takes nothing away from our wonderful AW. Like other strong elements with half-lives, AW will go on forever. g.

Inactive--! This is the most active writing forum I've found online, and I browsed a lot (I just joined here in May I believe)--I can't spend hours here a day, but I think it's quite active enough for my tastes. I can actually usually reply to a few posts a day! That's enough for me. But I've always been kind of a wallflower. :)

It's not the quantity, it's the quality! Or something. *shrug*

Yep. That's pretty much the way it works.

I haven't seen many of those in Office Party lately. When they do occur, we try to move the discussions to the more appropriate Politics forum.

Of course, "political threads" covers such a wide range of topics that we may be viewing the subject matter differently, as I'm thinking more along the lines of governmental politics.

When you have a chance, Claudia, and if you don't mind, please share the types of "political threads" that have turned you off from Office Party. Even if you don't cite specific discussions, I'd appreciate hearing your thoughts on how you're "fairly sick of the political threads."

Voting is politics.

Everyone is voting for 'most sexy', 'baldest', etc right now.

Of course, I'm having a blast with it.

But, if you feel you must, S.King, move 'em all over to P&CE. At least it'll get the topic off 'peak oil' for a little while.
