Barnes and Noble has changed their refund policy. In a pilot program that affects four states including New York and California, the bookseller will begin accepting refunds ONLY with a receipt and ONLY within 14 days of the original purchase.

If you have ever gotten a book you hated for your birthday, you know what a pain this will be!

The pilot program goes national in October!

If you want to help me keep this program down, please, please join me in writing letters of complaint to the following:

I get a sucky book as a gift and I can exchange it for one I like, that's cool with me. I don't need a refund.

I assume they'll be doing the "gift receipt" as well.

And even if I do get stuck with a book I hate, that's why god invented re-gifting!

Maybe you should post the email addresses of your relatives who buy you cr@ppy books and we'll petition them to have better taste instead. :D

I'm joking.

I don't really care what your relatives buy you. :wag:

I think it's reasonable since I'm sure there are plenty of speed readers out there who finish the book then return it saying, "I got it as a gift and it's not my style."

I think they should make the policy even more restrictive.

I'll write them and tell them that.
