Researching sales history of similar books

Hello All,

I tried finding a similar thread on this but had no luck and my eyes are going buggy trying to look through all the past threads. So here goes.

I have an idea for a non-fiction book and have found some simliar books with the same theme published. I would like to know how I can find out how those books have done with their sales. Is there a way to look find out the sales history for them?

Hi Anne. As far as I know those numbers are a closely-guarded secret. If this is part of your proposal I don't think you need to worry about supplying your prospective publisher with the numbers. Just giving them the pertinent data (title, author, publisher, date) of the competing titles will be enough. Their own in-house gurus can examine the entrails for sales figures if they want.
