Dear God XTC

Dear god,
Hope you got the letter,
And I pray you can make it better down here.
I don’t mean a big reduction in the price of beer,
But all the people that you made in your image,
See them starving on their feet,
’cause they don’t get enough to eat

From god,
I can’t believe in you.

Dear god,
Sorry to disturb you,
But I feel that I should be heard loud and clear.
We all need a big reduction in amount of tears,
And all the people that you made in your image,
See them fighting in the street,
’cause they can’t make opinions meet,
About god,
I can’t believe in you.

Did you make disease, and the diamond blue?
Did you make mankind after we made you?
And the devil too!

Dear god,
Don’t know if you noticed,
But your name is on a lot of quotes in this book.
Us crazy humans wrote it, you should take a look,
And all the people that you made in your image,
Still believing that junk is true.
Well I know it ain’t and so do you,
Dear god,
I can’t believe in,
I don’t believe in,

I won’t believe in heaven and hell.
No saints, no sinners,
No devil as well.
No pearly gates, no thorny crown.
You’re always letting us humans down.
The wars you bring, the babes you drown.
Those lost at sea and never found,
And it’s the same the whole world ’round.
The hurt I see helps to compound,
That the father, son and holy ghost,
Is just somebody’s unholy hoax,
And if you’re up there you’ll perceive,
That my heart’s here upon my sleeve.
If there’s one thing I don’t believe in...

It’s you,
Dear god.

Sweet The Sting - Tori Amos

This song is so hot, it just sends me. I'm not a fan of hers across the board, but she's welcome to more of my money if she can crank out more, um, inspiring, stuff like this...

Sweet The Sting - Tori Amoshttp://www.toriamos.com/

(You can listen to a clip on her site)

With a strut into the room
With his hat cocked sure defiantly
He said "I, I have heard
That you can play the way I like it to be played."
I said, "I can play, anyway that you want.
But first I want, I want to know

Baby is it sweet sweet
Sweet the sting
Is it real this infusion
Can it heal where others before have failed?
If so then somebody
Shake shake shake me sane
'cause I am inching ever closer to the tip of this scorpion's tail"

He said "I laid my weapons
down with my pistol
Fully loaded, a hunted man
To my root, will it end
Or begin in your cinnabar juice?"

Is it sweet sweet
Sweet the sting
Is it real this infusion
Can it heal where others before have failed?
If so then somebody
Shake shake shake me sane
'cause I am inching ever closer to the tip of this scorpion's tail"

Love let me breathe
Breathe you in
Melt the confusion
Until there is
Union

I have had the theme song from Aladdin going through my head for, what about 3 months now? I guess I should be happy about that.

For about two years, the song that went through my head was "Baby Got Back." by some rapper I can't think of. Yes, I was pushing 40, a white woman, and my head was repeating the lyrics (words) to Baby Got Back.

Henry Lee
(Nick Cave and PJ Harvey)

(PJ)
Get down, get down, little henry lee
And stay all night with me
You won’t find a girl in this damn world
That will compare with me

And the wind did howl and the wind did blow
La la la la la
La la la la lee
A little bird lit down on henry lee

(Nick)
I can’t get down and I won’t get down
And stay all night with thee
For the girl I have in that merry green land
I love far better than thee

And the wind did howl and the wind did blow
La la la la la
La la la la lee
A little bird lit down on henry lee

(Nick)
She leaned herself against a fence
Just for a kiss or two
And with a little pen-knife held in her hand
She plugged him through and through

And the wind did roar and the wind did moan
La la la la la
La la la la lee
A little bird lit down on henry lee

(PJ)
Come take him by his lilly-white hands
Come take him by his feet
And throw him in this deep deep well
Which is more than one hundred feet

And the wind did howl and the wind did blow
La la la la la
La la la la lee
A little bird lit down on henry lee

(PJ)
Lie there, lie there, little henry lee
Till the flesh drops from your bones
For the girl you have in that merry green land
Can wait forever for you to come home

And the wind did howl and the wind did moan
La la la la la
La la la la lee
A little bird lit down on henry lee

"Like Tears in Rain"
Covenant

Go to the empire state and watch the city lights
Hear the noise of millions struggle in the sprawl
Stare into the sky we're few and far between
Black eyes full of stars wide with memories

Every street I ever walked
Every home I ever had
Is lost

Every flower I ever held
Every spring I ever had
Has dried

Every man I ever knew
Every woman I ever had
Is gone

Everything I ever touched
Everything I ever had
Has died

Lie down in the park and watch the satellites
Hear the children sing just a breath away
Dance in heavy air along the interstate
Black lung full of fumes choke on memories

Every street I ever walked
Every home I ever had
Is lost

Every flower I ever held
Every spring I ever had
Has dried

Every man I ever knew
Every woman I ever had
Is gone

Everything I ever touched
Everything I ever had
Has died

Shadow Boxer

Shadow Boxer- Fiona Apple

Once my lover, now my friend
What a cruel thing to pretend
What a cunning way to condescend
Once my lover, and now my friend
Oh, you creep up like the clouds
And you set my soul at ease
Then you let your love abound
And you bring me to my knees

Oh, it's evil, babe, the way you let your grace enrapture me
When well you know, I'd be insane - to ever let that dirty game recapture me

You made me a shadowboxer, baby
I wanna be ready for what you do
I been swinging all around me
'Cause I don't know when you're gonna make your move

Oh, your gaze is dangerous
And you fill your space so sweet
If I let you get too close
You'll set your spell on me
So darlin' I just wanna say
Just in case I don't come through
I was on to every play
I just wanted you

But, oh, it's so evil, my love, the way you've no reverence to my concern
So I'll be sure to stay wary of you, love, to save the pain of
Once my flame and twice my burn You made me a shadowboxer, baby
I wanna be ready for what you do
I been swinging all around me
'Cause I don't know when you're gonna make your move

Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve)

Not a super great song, but I haven't heard it in years, then heard it today.

Bittersweet Symphony (The Verve)

'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Trying to make ends meet
You're a slave to money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah

No change, I can't change
I can't change, I can't change
But I'm here in my mind
I am here in my mind
But I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mind
No, no, no, no, no, no, no,no,no,no,no,no(fading away)

Well I never pray
But tonight I'm on my knees yeah
I need to hear some sounds that recognize the pain in me, yeah
I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind, I feel free now
But the airways are clean and there's nobody singing to me now

No change, I can't change
I can't change, I can't change
But I'm here in my mind
I am here in my mind
And I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mind
No, no, no, no, no, no, no
I can't change
I can't change it

'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life
Trying to make ends meet
Trying to find some money then you die
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
where all the veins meet yeah

You know I can't change, I can't change
I can't change, I can't change
But I'm here in my mind
I am here in my mind
And I'm a million different people
from one day to the next
I can't change my mind
No, no, no, no, no

I can't change my mind
no, no, no, no, no,
I can't change
Can't change my body,
no, no, no

I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down
Been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
Ever been down
That you've ever been down
That you've ever been down

Full of Grace by Sarah McLaughlin

Winter here is cold and bitter
It’s chilled us to the bone
We haven’t seen the sun for weeks
Too long too far from home
I feel just like I’m sinking
And I claw for solid ground
Pulled down by the undertow
Never thought I could feel so low
Oh darkness, I feel like letting go...

Chorus
If all of the strength, all of the courage
Come and lift me from this place
I know I could love you much better than this
Full of grace
Full of grace
My love

It’s better this way, I said
Having seen this place before
Where everything we say and do
Hurts us all the more
Its just that we've stayed too long
In the same old sickly skin
Pulled down by the undertow
Never thought I could feel so low
Oh darkness I feel like letting go...

Chorus repeated

I know I could love you much better than this
It's better this way

(One of my top ten fav songs)

Audioslave's newest song is still going through my head - "Doesn't remind me"

I love the chorus -

"Things that I've found
Things that I've lost
Things I held sacred -
that I tossed..."

It's a new song, so I don't have all the words memorized yet...

It's in my head (since going to sleep and just waking up and not having the 1st whole cup of coffee yet...

Oh my mind be gentle and kind, quiet and still, peaceful and filled with love's light.
And another one (of course!, 'cause that's how my brain works)...
Relax, release, recall, request...receive, receive, resound, rejoice.
Thanks (c) Rahima & Tomas Meyers. I love U guys!

Think I'll ever get past these chants?
Maybe I need to put on the radio!

Texas on My Mind
by Pat Green

I woke up this morning
With Texas on my mind
Thinking about my friends there
And the girl I left behind
The way she held me when we kissed
The loving that we done
And how I left her waving goodbye
Standing in the Texas sun

I've got a half a mind to call her
Half a mind to go
Jump a big jet liner
and go winging on my way back home

All the morning it was raining
on the streets of Liverpool
So I stayed in and played guitar
And sang the Love Sick Blues
My mind kept going back in time
to when we both had fun
and how I left her waving to me
standing in the Texas sun

I've got a half a mind to call her
Half a mind to go
Jump a big jet liner
and go winging on my way back home

And in my dreams she's still in love with me
but I'll have to travel home to see
If she's found another man to take the place of me
Guess I'll have to keep on dreaming sunny memories

Wishing I was back there
Doesn't help me much at all
And when I want to hold her
It doesn't help me much to call
Stuck here in this seaport town
longing for the one
That I left behind me there
Standing in the Texas sun

I've got a half a mind to call her
Half a mind to go
Jump a big jet liner
and go winging on my way back home

I've got a half a mind to call her
half a mind to go
Jump a big jet liner
and go winging on my way back home

(Hey, am I the only country music listener around here or something?)

I don't know if this counts or not because I didn't "listen" to it, but I just played it on the guitar and sang it for my son.

I Don't Call Him Daddy
by Doug Supernaw

It was six in the morning when I made the county line
There's someone I got to talk too, I can't get it off my mind
He is just a kid, but he's in a pretty rough spot
Two dimes make a phone call and that's about all I got

How's my boy, today? I know it's been three weeks
But you know how far I got to go these days to make ends meet
And how's your mamma now with her new live in friend?
Oh how I hate the wounds that never seem to mend.

He said "I don't call him Daddy, but he takes care of things.
When you pick me up on Friday are you gonna bring me anything?
Oh, don't worry dad, it don't matter what we do
Cause I don't call him Daddy. He could never be like you."

God bless the little hearts. They're the ones who really pay.
When mom and dad can't get along and they go their separate ways
In a way I'm glad there's someone there to fill the empty space
Tears of understanding stream down a dirty face

He said "I don't call him Daddy. But he takes care of things.
When you pick me up on Friday, are you gonna bring me anything?
Oh don't worry Dad, you know, it don't matter what we do.
Cause I don't call him Daddy. He could never be like you.

He is quite a little man, growing up as fast as he can.
And I don't get to see him half as much as I had planned.
There's so much I need to tell him, so precious little time.
A little rain on the window, and a little wave goodbye.

He said "I don't call him Daddy. But he takes care of things.
When you pick me up on Friday, are you gonna bring me anything?
Oh don't worry Dad, you know, it don't matter what we do.
Cause I don't call him Daddy. He could never be like you.

He could never be like you.

Alright, everyone. Break out the Lone Star beer and sing along with Brady.

You Never Even Call Me By My Name
by David Allen Coe

It was all that I could do to keep from crying.
Sometimes it seems so useless to remain.
You don't have to call be darlin', darlin'
You never even call me by my name

You don't have to call me Waylon Jennings
And you don't have to call me Charlie Pride
And you don't have to call me Merle Haggard, anymore
Even though you're on my fighting side

And I'll hang around as long as you will let me
Cause I never minded standing in the rain
You don't have to call me darlin', darlin'
You never even call me by my name

Well I've seen my name a few times in your phone book
And I've seen it on signs where I've played
But the only time I know I'll hear David Allen Coe
Is when Jesus has his final judgement day

So I'll hang around as long as you will let me
Cause I never minded standing in the rain
And you don't have to call me darlin', darlin'
You never even call me by my name

I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison
and I went to pick her up in the rain
but before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got run over by a damned old train

(All together on the chorus!)

So I'll hang around as long as you will let me
Cause I never minded standiing in the rain
And you don't have to call me darlin', darlin'
You never even call me by my name
well I wonder why you don't call me
why don't you ever call me by my name

(that was fun!)

"Frightened" by Toby Lightman

Viewing lights under the surface
Knowing I'm found
Can't run away from
Can't make it undone

While reaching out for anything
Screaming without a sound
How did I find you
How was I supposed to try

[Chorus:]
I'm frightened by the love that's in you
But it's alright
Oh and I'm frightened by the love that's in me
But I know, it's alright

The only one who understands
The only one who gave me
Something to belong to
With nothing left to undo

With you, everything's beautiful
And I'm not scared to be
Falling into unknown
With you, I find the strength to carry on

[Chorus]

It's alright

D Train - The Washington Squares

Everybody sing along!

I get up every morning at the crack of eight
Ridin' on the D Train line
Take a train in a hole to a job I hate
Ridin' on the D Train line

Well, every morning I'm ridin' that subway train
Ridin' on the D Train line
To a phone and a desk and a ball and chain
Ridin' on the D Train line, oh Lord
Ridin' on the D Train line

Hey, ho, way to go
Never gonna be on time
Hey, ho, let's go
Ridin' on the D Train line, oh Lord
Ridin' on the D Train line

Lost Cause (Beck)

Your sorry eyes, they cut through bone.
They make it hard to leave you alone.
Leave you here wearing your wounds
Waving your guns at somebody new.

Baby I’m a lost
Baby I’m a lost
Baby I’m a lost cause.

There’s too many people you used to know
They see you coming they see you go.
They know your secrets and you know theirs
This town is crazy, but nobody cares.

Baby I’m a lost
Baby I’m a lost
Baby I’m a lost cause.
I’m tired of fighting
I’m tired of fighting
Fighting for a lost cause

There’s a place where you are going
You ain’t never been before
There’s no one laughing at your back now
No one standing at your door
Is that what you thought love was for?

Baby I’m a lost
Baby I’m a lost
Baby I’m a lost cause
I’m tired of fighting
I’m tired of fighting
Fighting for a lost cause.

Wig in a Box
(Hedwig and the Angry Inch)

w/ video!

On nights like this
when the world's a bit amiss
and the lights go down
across the trailer park
I get down
I feel had
I feel on the verge of going mad
and then it's time to punch the clock

I put on some make-up
and turn up the tape deck
and pull the wig down on my head
suddenly I'm Miss Midwest
Midnight Checkout Queen
until I head home
and put myself to bed

I look back on where I'm from
look at the woman I've become
and the strangest things
seem suddenly routine
I look up from my Vermouth on the rocks
a gift-wrapped wig still in the box
of towering velveteen.

I put on some make-up
and some LaVern Baker
and pull the wig down from the shelf
Suddenly I'm Miss Beehive 1963
Until I wake up
And turn back to myself

Some girls they have natural ease
they wear it any way they please
with their French flip curls
and perfumed magazines
Wear it up
Let it down
This is the best way that I've found
to be the best you've ever seen

I put on some make-up
and turn up the eight-track
I'm pulling the wig down from the shelf
Suddenly I'm Miss Farrah Fawcett
from TV
until I wake up
and turn back to myself

Shag, bi-level, bob
Dorothy Hammil do,
Sausage curls, chicken wings
It's all because of you
With your blow dried, feather back,
Toni home wave, too
flip, fro, frizz, flop,
It's all because of you
It's all because of you
It's all because of you

I put on some make-up
turn up the eight-track
I'm pulling the wig down from the shelf
Suddenly I'm this punk rock star
of stage and screen
and I ain't never
I'm never turning back

funny title - great song

The Power of Orange Knickers - Tori Amos

The power of orange knickers
The power of orange knickers
The power of orange knickers
under my petticoat
the power of listening to what
you don't want me to know
Can somebody tell me now who is this terrorist
those girls that smile kindly
then rip your life to pieces
Can somebody tell me now am I alone with this
this little pill in my hand and with this secret kiss
am I alone in this...
A matter of complication when you become a twist
for their latest drink as they're transitioning
Can somebody tell me now who is this terrorist
this little pill in my hand that keeps the pain laughin'
Can somebody tell me now a way out of this
that sacred pipe of red stone could blow me out of this
kiss am I alone in this...
Shame shame time to leave me now
Shame shame you've had your fun
Shame shame for letting me think
that I would be the one
Can somebody tell me now who is this terrorist
this little pill in my hand
or this secret kiss
am I alone in this
kiss
am I alone in this kiss

Nightingale Song-Toad the Wet Sprocket

We sing the nightingale song alive
Streets never border further than my sight
We sing the nightingale song alive
We might be different but our hearts won’t lie

And little ever changes if anything at all
But the song rings loudly through these halls

We sing the nightingale song alive
We might be different but our hearts won’t lie

And little ever changes when you view it from the sky
And the damage we encounter the earth just passes by
And little ever changes if anything at all
And we remind ourselves how small we are
