The Folger's couple from years ago?

The transportation terminals that were supposed to be ushed in by Segways? (Remember it was called Valerie and was suppose to revolutionize transportation).

The "New" Coke.

Twelve Inch DVD's?

And Silly Fridays....

any more?

People hated "new" Coke so they went back to "old" Coke ....

I've always wondered about the Folgers couple, too, but who knows?

;)

What ever happened to manners?

My dad always taught me to hold the door open for ladies among other gentlemanly ways. I got told off a while ago for holding a door open for a lady. Seems she felt she was quite capable of doing it herself and that I was a sexist pig for holding the door open. This actually happened to me. I read an article about the loss of manners and why men tend to refrain from doing gentlemanly things. I know women are not all this way but it did make me think as my ears burned to a crisp for just trying to be a nice fella that perhaps the ways of gentlemanly poise is going the way of, or has gone the way of nice thoughts and kindly gestures?

What is Silly Friday?

Silly Friday was a thread where we spent the day looking for and posting silly stuff -- sort of to help everyone end the week on a good note and pick up those who were shy, overwhelmed, bummed, angry, lonely or otherwise not smiling enough. Success was measured in the amount of coffee sprayed on your keyboard! It was the creation of the old lobsterino.

No Davids = no Silly Friday. There can be no substitute, cause it just wouldn't be silly enough.

I agree to agree with sadness that manners have declined.

I still enjoy having doors held open for me; I guess I'm old enough and old-fashioned enough that I'm not offended. I often hold the door for older folks or people with kids.

My son is seven and everywhere he goes, he holds the door for ladies and old people. So far he has not been lamblasted.

What Folger's couple?

What transportation terminals? What's a segway? (about 80 pounds, badoom cha!)

New Coke was a marketing miscalculation by Coke and died a swift death. If it had been offered as an alternative instead of a replacement it would have met with more success.

I never heard of 12 inch DVDs. What ever happened to those mini ones?

What's a silly Friday?

Sounds like you are solid parent. One should endeavor to pass on the nice compliments of a previous way of life even if it seems to be dying!

Thanks for the explanation of Silly Friday. Why is it no longer here?

I actually kind of like the fact that manners have gone by the wayside. It sets the bar pretty low. Sometimes when I hold open a door I get looked at like I'm a paladin.

Beats the hell out of actually having to slay dragons...

Now, whatever happened to good Saturday morning cartoons? The Real Ghostbusters? Turbo Teen? Muppet Babies? That's what I'm talking about...

Elwood
05-16-2008, 08:02 PM
Actually regarding cartoons which are as imortant to me as life itself, since the old Fudd, bugs and co days, and I mean the old Mel Blanc ones it has all become socio politically correct ruffage. Poor manners are of course nebulous add ons but as so much in our society they do help to order the marriage of respect and chivalrous behavior. To twit Peppi Le Pue or was that peeeeeyou?

If you believe in good manners then why do you put brightly colored political statements in your signature, so that people who have no interest in your political beliefs have to read it when they just want to talk about writing and publishing?

You can always hide signatures in the User Control Panel. And her political statements are hardly rude. It's not like she's rocking a "Bush sucks!" banner or a picture of Rick James screamin' "F*** yo' couch, ni&&a!"

Next time you run across a woman who is so rude, say excuse me I mistook you for a lady... :)

What Folger's couple?

They were a couple on a commercial for Folger's coffee... (maybe it was another brand... the old swedish lady was for Folgers and she always gave advice).

I know... but they never said they would take it off the market... just that they were going to offer the old coke also..

I find it bad manners to bring up politics in an unrelated conversation. I consider threads on forums a type of conversation.

I am aware I can turn signatures off, but I find them useful as many members post links to their blogs or WIPs.

Many of the larger web forums, including several that I post at prohibit political talk outside of designated politics sub-forums. If I can't read about writing without having politics shoved my face, I'll wind up spending less time here. My loss I guess.

I think by 12 inch DVDs, Joyce meant the laser discs, right?

My grandfather used to own a video store, and he had a stash of laser discs. He also had a laser disc player, and my cousins and I got to take home all the discs we wanted to watch! We thought they were so cool!

Ack! I saw a newish Folgers ad, (then again we get shows and stuff from 20 or more years ago according to what's been brought in by Israeli TV from US, Britian, Australia, Europe, etc): A young guy's serving the coffee to the hot older woman and completely misses her innuendoes.

Sorry, folks. Elwood the "25-year-old pro golfer" is/was davids. We don't let people play games like that here. Flounce if you must, but don't come back under new identities, then. If you change your mind, unflounce under your original identity with an explanation.
