What's one thing you, as a writer, couldn't live without?

For me, it's the thesaurus. More specifically, the online thesaurus at Merriam-Webster Online (http://www.merriam-webster.com/).

For me?

A door with a lock.

My laptop - which has no internet connection and therefore no distractions. That and my collection of 50+ notebooks.

Lately, AW.

I'm surprised nobody else has said that yet.

For me, it would probably be #absolutewrite

Don't need sugar, but I do need coffee. I need coffee to do just about anything anyway.

Lately, AW.

I'm surprised nobody else has said that yet.
Only the Sunday night regulars will get my reference...

Big Mary

-- or whatever computer I am married to at the moment. The Thang, The Cynister Mystress of Cynchronicity, Stinky Buttfuster -- they've all had their day (and night), and retired with honor.

Couldn't do it without 'em.

What, you don't name your computer?

I named my AlphaSmart. See Sally and Me below. (Shameless plug.)

Aw is probably my worst enemy when it comes to actually getting my writing done. Same goes for homework. You guys siphon away my life. o_o

The same can be said of Youtube.

My best friend and co-author. Even when we're not collaborating, I need her for the encouragement, wit, and sharp eye.

My mind, it supplies me with endless ideas for plots, twists and different kinds of characters, some good, some bad... I guess that shows the state of my mind then, eh :D

Mackinaw Isle. Loves that place. And a great place for a writer to hole up.

For me, my staples would be a library and a garden, tis all I need.

My friends, in particular Estelle. She's a neighbor who is writing her dissertation for her PhD at the Sorbonne. She is a muse to me, and reminds me daily why I love writing.

I couldn't live without a computer, whether laptop or desktop. My hand cramps up when I write; typing for me is so much easier. Then, more specifically, the Internet. Then, even more specifically, AW. I loves yous guys!

My writer partner, my computers, my headphones, Steely Dan or Bob Marley or the soundtrack of Amadeus (ack, I've worn out another one!), and Seymour Glass telling me to do it for the fat lady.

My laptop.... I can write so much faster on it than with pen and paper. I actually feel as if it is an extension of my fingers when I write..

However if I use a console... I HATE IT..

I forgot to add. My pen. But not any pen it has to be a black Pilot Precise V5 with Extra fine tip.

My Alphasmart Neo. It's so much nicer to write articles on than the desktop, since it has no distractions whatsoever -- not only no internet, but no games, no other programs, etc. And it's wonderfully portable everywhere, so my writing can go along when I travel (or at least in the airport and on the plane, on vacation it stays in its case!).

My laptop.

my 20GB of music files so that I can listen to rock and roll as I write.

my coffeeshop where I go to write (everybody there knows my name)

my excel spreadsheet that I took two years to build that has 10,000 entries of sex, drugs, hippie, religion, political, and pop culture phrases slang from the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's

coffee, Beer, wine, chocolate.

That's it. That's all I need to write.

Oh, and my brain.

The extreme DESIRE to write.

Without that fueling me, I wouldn't BE a writer at all.

Stimulants. Central nervous system stimulants. Very very powerful central nervous system stimulants.

I am, of course, joking.

My typewriters. Specifically, my Universal. My laptop works when I need it to, but there's something special in those old manuals that can't be replicated with electronics. But I do use my laptop to play music, so really, they're both necessary.

Amen to that. The feedback I've received has taught me more about writing than the 20+ how-to-write books I've read.

Films, music... I've found that a lot of my writing gets inspired by that.
And the obvious computer...or pen and paper. I'd need that as well.
