Isn't that just the way it goes?

My darling husband had to work yesterday (noon to 10pm), but he brought me home a lovely potted plant and some balloons. I was super touched!

I put them atop my DVR overnight, hoping to plant the flowers this morning. Only when I came out at 6:30 this morning...my poor plant had been stripped of it's leaves and blooms, which were scattered all over my living room floor, and the balloons were bobbing against the basement ceiling.

Happy Mother's Day. *sigh*

Aww, I'm sorry Cranky. Look on the bright side...they've given you a great story you'll tell on every Mother's Day to come. :)

Thanks, quicky. :)

It wasn't nearly as bad as the mess they made a few years back with sugar and flour and baking soda...all over my living room carpet. That was a nightmare...I've never wished so hard for a Shop Vak in my whole life! :D

Heh, I have a nephew that did the same thing to my sister-in-law's present.

He made her something in school for Mother's Day, but when she told him he couldn't do something, he got mad and tore it up.

When Mrs. Wit and I were very young and naive we had 2 dogs from Hell that would tear the house apart whenever we were gone. One night I came home from working late and the house was an absolute wreck. Standing there, looking at the remnants of what little furniture and electronics we had, I still remember marvelling at the potting soil on the ceiling.

Good times. :)

My four sons. *shakes head* I love 'em to pieces, but they do make me crazy sometimes.

LOL! Actually, it would be more accurate to say they didn't mean any harm. :) My Mother's Day was actually pretty crappy anyway.

I was just disappointed because it HAD been a rough day, and the plant and the flowers really made it a lot better.

I'll get it over it...

ETA: Thanks, Trey. I must've misplaced my cape, though. Otherwise, I'd have just levitated the mess right into the trash! LOL

that you're still a mother, if you get my drift.

Well, to be fair, it was only one that actually did the damage.

The older two pulled the plant down to get at the balloons, and left the plant within reach of my four year old, who is autistic, and currently has a "stim" that involves throwing things into the air to watch them fall. He does it with grass clippings (and cards, and Crunch n Munch, etc.), so this probably didn't seem much different to him.

I don't blame him as much as I do the older two, who most definitely know better than to do something like that...*sigh*

Kids. At least mine are old enough for grounding when they destroy things.

Now, if only I could ground my husband.

So, SM. Do your kids ever get to go anywhere?

(Inquiring minds still want to know.)

Actually, not really. But the eight year old did write me a very lovely poem. I shared it elsewhere on the board, but I'll post it again here. I think you'll like it Susie. :D

Roses are red
Daises are yellow
My heart sings for you
Just like a cello

Too bad he didn't show the same sensitivity when it came to my gift from Dad, eh? :D

Because I grounded them, or because I'm looking forward to the pouting? :D

Neither. It's because you obviously set them up to get into trouble. It's like parental entrapment.

You left a balloon-toting houseplant unattended within the confines of a home to which your children were granted unfettered access. It's textbook depraved indifference. My God woman, why not just put some cupcakes and cash in there as well to make sure they took the bait?

You should be ashamed. :)
