Not a movie but a video game....
Final Fantasy. I mean how many are there now? 13-14. What part of Final do they not understand. To mean Final means no more after this one folks.

Fox The Cave

The Matrix.

Maybe Oceans Eleven, but I haven't seen 13 yet, so that may redeem the second one.

The Mummy. The first one was light and fun and was great as it was. The 2nd could've been cool had they not just revisited the 1st and thrown in a bunch of complications that were unnecessary. They should've gone the Indiana Jones route if they were going to make a sequel and present a wholly unrelated adventure.

Yeah, that's the best one in this thread yet.

****

I can't help it, though, I love sequels and I love remakes (if they are done properly), so if they want to MAKE 500 sequels to a movie, I'm fine with it so long as they don't just throw it together and make trash and actually put some thought into it.

In Hollywood, I've noticed that sequels begin to fall apart completely around the middle of the third movie and that anything after that is almost always complete and total dog shit.

So, I'm a fan of trilogies. But I cringe when I hear that a fourth movie is being made in a franchise I like cause I know that what is coming is not going to be good at all.

So the way I see it, they should make 3 movies and stop for about 15 years and THEN if they want to reboot it, hey, that's great.

Return of the Jedi.

Return to the Secret Garden. They had to bring in an American orphan? Really? And mess up Agnieszka Holland's perfect vision?

Powaqqatsi. I actually liked the third Qatsi film but it did seem to go over old ground, though Reggio's such a genius that I'm probably nitpicking.

Eraserhead needs a sequel. Or maybe they can just "reimagine" it with Keanu or something.

12, with #13 in development. Not including all the spin-offs.

But, here's some trivia for you. In the mid 1980's, Square had a string of simple games that weren't selling well and they were failing financially. Designer Hironobu Sakaguchi developed the original Final Fantasy as both his final project before retirement, and also the last chance for the company. It was a last ditch effort to save them from bankruptcy, hence the name Final Fantasy.

Luckily for them, it reversed their fortunes almost instantly and became the flagship series. Sakaguchi held off on retirement and stayed with the company until 2001. Instead of being their final hurrah, Final Fantasy became a juggernaut, particularly here in the U.S.

So now you know why the name doesn't make sense. ;)

As for movies that shouldn't have sequels, Dragon Heart comes to mind. Sure the first wasn't the best, but I still like it, if only for nostalgia these days. Sean Connery is still the perfect dragon. But they completely ruined what charm the original had when they vomited up that horrendous sequel.
