My current computer at home is 10 years old and runs on Windows 98. So I'm wondering if I should just take the plunge and buy myself a new computer. (Given the prices today, I'm pretty sure I can get a decent one and use the money I got from my tax return.) Or should I just go ahead and get the Windows XP operating system upgrade.

I generally just use it for writing and internet and usually save my stuff on separate disks, not on the hard drive itself. But I would also like to get a CDR since the computer I have now has a CD drive but not a CD burner.

Yeah, I kinda figured. Any suggestions on which one to get? I don't need a high-end deal. Just something I can access the internet on and - more importantly - write.

Someplace else.
If you're looking at laptops, don't get a Dell. I routinely want to take a baseball bat to mine.

I'm not looking for a laptop. Just a desktop for home. I'm thinking of going to the local Best Buy this weekend and see what they have.
