How about the Retard brand of how-to books?
Is it too soon?
Note: It has been brought to my attention that this humor has been misinterpreted, and it's therefore probably worthwhile to clarify the reasoning behind it.
Moron, idiot, and imbecile were once scientifically valid terminology. Eventually, the public started using them as insults, and scientists moved away from the terms in response. After all, who wants to use insults to describe mentally retarded people? That would, of course, be cruel--if not to the afflicted person then especially to the family and relatives of that person.
I find the employment of any of these terms--yes, the ones used in book titles--to be equally as insensitive as any number of racial slurs.
Thus, you can see how "Is it too soon?" is asking whether retard has entered the popular lexicon as an insult yet: is it now acceptable to the public, just as idiot/moron/imbecile are already acceptable? This was not intended to condone the usage, but rather mock and parody it. I thought that was clear, but apparently not.
