mine aren't that much different from yours. However I think you should have asked the question about what people call the types of sandwiches that Subway serves.

In NJ they are hoggies
In MA they are grinders
In NH they are subs...

Also in NJ pizza is often called tomato pie.

Ahh... the hoagie/sub/grinder debate - in Jersey, your location dictates what you call it :D

North Jersey - grinders or subs

South Jersey - hoagies.

We call them subs.

And offer someone from outside this area a tomato pie - they look at you like you're nuts. But we know what we mean... :D

My grandmother called a "long stuffed piece of furniture you sit on to watch tv" a divan, but I never picked up that particular affectation.

Wow, after reading these lists, I've never heard of dishwashing liquid being called dish soap ever.

And besides soap is the stuff you use to wash your hands.

Actually, there's a deli in Bridgewater (about 10 min from me :D) that calls them grinders - and the place has been around forever. Maybe Somerset county dwellers are the only ones who know what a grinder is. :D

PS - that deli is where I met Jersey Guy - :)

Around here, those are subs. In the town where I went to university they were hoagies. I haven't heard them called anything else, especially not "grinders".

Somehow, I think I would hesitate to eat a grinder. Sounds bad for my teeth. But if you gave me one, I'd say, thanks for the sub.
