Haggis Dish; anyone ever tried?

The picture of the haggis on the other thread, influenced me to create this thread. I'm genuinely curious, what does haggis smell like? What does it taste like? What's your honest opinion? I've never tried it myself, it would be kind of interesting to find out what you think about haggis from your own tasteful experiences. :) *Haggis the Junkyard Lemming, is exempt from this tasteful exercise*

I won't comment here. I'll just sit around, passing out negative reps. :D

i thought maybe this was the 420 thread*runs out*

What's that one, when it's related to haggis?

Just so you know, I'm interested in the haggis, I am reading the ingredients for the first time.

1 sheep's stomach (thoroughly cleaned)
1 sheep's liver
1 sheep's heart
1 sheep's lung
1lb beef suet
1 large onion
1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon black pepper
1lb oatmeal

I had no idea. Now, that kind of sounds interesting. I wonder what it tastes like. Any takers? You know, you can talk about it..

I would have commented, but I didn't want to talk about 'dog hair' and 'food' so soon after eating breakfast...
I always end up w/ dog fur in my breakfast. What, that isn't normal...

Just ask Rolling Thunder.
I'm never asking him anything, ever again. Last time I did, look what happened
<~~~

Btw, Haggis, since you've got those cute little flashing eyes, any chance you could make mine that way, too :)

I wonder whether people actually eat haggis or not, or whether it's just a myth?

I eat snails if it's any consolation, and love spiced chicken stomachs. The chicken stomachs are a traditional delicatessen in Portugal.

I believe they do. My stomach couldn't deal w/ it, excuse the pun.

Uh, the stuff you mentioned, forget it. I know, it tastes just like chicken.

We all know what Haggis smells like, and it starts with an 's.'

*accidentally hits "report post" button*

I didn't do it. It was done to me. But really, all you gotta do is steal mine. :D

I understand. :) I wouldn't mind having a taste. The stomachs don't taste anything like chicken, they are squishy and have this different acquired taste. They taste a bit like snails actually, except they are sweeter and spicier. Man, I love them. :D They are quite popular at weddings. :)

Goose intestines are a delicacy. Cow's stomachs and pig's stomach are actually common food. Snails (escargot) are delicious.

Missing Writer??? May flights of angels carry you
I'm just gonna sit here and wait for Nerds.
I'm very sure she will have something valuable to offer to the conversation. ;)

Although if I WAS gonna say anything, it would be that all you guys hanging out in the Drunk thread might wanna remember the old 'hair of the dog' thing and tread carefully -- you don't wanna annoy your resident supplier.

Yes, of course people eat it. It's from Scotland. The ingredients are rather off putting, but if it was set down in front of you and you had no idea what was in it, any meat eater would probably like it.

"Disgusting" dishes like this are often the result of poor people (as in no effin money) doing what they could with the meager resources at hand.

Serve with tatties and neeps. Wash down with a fine single malt. Enjoy!

You've said it well. :) Now, what does it taste like putting aside the ingredients for one minute, for you? What do you love about it?

To Rolling Thunder, "smoking Haggis" carries a totally different meaning...

I was thinking the same thing. EDIT: Changed title to suit context. Somewhat still up there.
