This is the sort of interview I enjoy reading. It's very readable, a quality one can never take for granted.

It's informative; it confirms what I might think of as common sense, then adds reasoning to it. Furthermore, there's detail that seems obvious once it's mentioned, but which I might not have thought of, had I, say, gone off to seek publication straightaway.

It's well-organised, which means the facts are not only clear, but are likely to be easy to recall.

Thank you, Lisa and Victoria, for a most helpful article.

(Disclaimer: I've known both of these fine people through Absolute Write for some time now. Still, I'm right!)

Thanks so much, Joel! And yes, Victoria has an excellent knowledge base. Also, I appreciate the comment about the brevity of the interview: MacAllister ribbed me about it a bit because I was worried that the interview would be too long for the format! I'll be doing more interviews on aspects of self-publishing and would love to get feedback on what people want to hear about.

Lisa, thanks for the excellent interview. Victoria is one of the best-informed experts on how to recognize scams in the publishing field, and her analysis is amazingly comprehensive despite the brevity of the interview. Any writer thinking about making the leap into self-publishing should study her points carefully. Doing your research is by far the most important. Second is being clear about what your goals are. If it all seems confusing, try to find a trusted guide to help you through the process. Any of these actions will potentially save you from regrets later.
