My Top 10 Games of 2012

These are, I think, the best 2012 releases I played last year:

1. Far Cry 3
2. Crusader Kings 2
3. Mass Effect 3
4. XCOM: Enemy Unknown
5. Hotline Miami
6. FTL
7. Dishonored
8. Endless Space
9. Mark of the Ninja
10. New Star Soccer

All on PC except for NSS, on iOS. It's interesting how much I've gone off my PS3 as a gaming device - I was playing Far Cry 3 last night with all the settings whacked up to Ultra and it just blows these five year old consoles out of the water. With an exploding arrow, whereupon sharks eat them.

I also have some in-no-particular-order iPad picks, none of which quite made it into the top 10.

* Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer
* Elder Sign: Omens
* Plague, Inc
* Infectonator 2
* Reclaim EDIT: Rebuild? The post-zombie-apocalypse town management game
* Cafeteria Nipponica
* Burnout Crash
* Fairway Solitaire
* Ticket to Ride

I don't believe I have played any games in 2012.

The only two new video games (new to me, that is) I played in 2012 were Skyrim and Castlevania LOS. They were both enjoyable, the first more awe-inspiring than the second. BUt neither will ever be considered my favorite game of all time.

I did play some PC games (Endless Space and Crusader Kings 2 for example), but for me it was a big year for
board games:

Fontenoy
Saints in Armor
Sweden Fights On
Harpoon 4.1 (I had to alter it into a boardgame)
Fighting Sail
No Question of Surrender (Bir Hakeim)
Where Eagles Dare (the safer end of the Market-Garden Corridor using the same system as No Question of Surrender)

And one more PC game (Battle for Normandy: Commonwealth Forces Module) makes 10 but I'll
add the Fall of the Samurai expansion for Shogun2 and go to 11 games!

I should add Rise of Flight. I got it in 2011 and just got the Channel map and the big flying boat, but I played it a lot in 2012. So that's my top 12 games of 2012!
