Plebgate: was Andrew Mitchell framed by the police?

Regulars will know I'm never one to wade in on the side of a Tory Cabinet Member, but it does genuinely seem possible that Mitchell's version of events was correct. There's apparently strong evidence that an off-duty officer reported events which CCTV shows he couldn't have seen, and now another man has been arrested.

I find it all bewildering. In the 1980s the police tended to act as the truncheon wing of the Tory Party, but now they're in open conflict.

Nothing surprises me anymore.

And while I understand little about the current British political climate, a frame-up of that whole plebe fiasco doesn't seem far fetched.

Yes, it looks very, very dodgy. It's interesting, in that 'Git of a Tory whip calls police plebs' and 'Police lie to make politician look bad' are two equally likely stories.

How I wish Mitchell was accused of using a stronger word than 'pleb'.

Something beginning with C, perhaps?

I don't understand why it takes 30 officers to investigate it.

I reckon the police are as incompetently dodgy as the politicians these days.

Well, if there's one corrupt officer, you're probably going to need four to investigate them. But one or two of those investigating will be in on it, so you'll need eight or nine to investigate them. But some of those will also be corrupt...

In the end you'll have the whole of the Met investigating itself while criminals take the opportunite to unscrew the whole of London and walk off with it. (Actually, I think the IOC already did that.)

I remember the days when the police were smart enough to do proper fit ups. Ones that would take 30 years to unravel.

By comparison, Plebgate is pathetic.
