It might, if you get good one. I've known some who use them just fine, they just have to 'train' them.

Thanks, Deirdre, for a nice personal note

Sorry about the R, Alex. )-:
Still crickets here. I'm now the longest pending response on one market at Duotrope, and only two days shy of having that honor at a second. Need to get some new stuff written and out, so I can bolster my aging cricket population.

Sorry to hear about the Rs in here
![]() I got a 99 day rejection from a place I was shortlisted, knew it would come though - the ending is wonky. There were some good comments though (including about the ending) Last edited by V1c; 10-09-2011 at 10:59 PM. |

Sorry about the Rs. Quote:
I got a R from Clarkesworld today, but I am top of the duotrope stats on one market, way past the ART. And according to Duo I'm one day off top for Strange Horizons. Lol. I keep waiting for the R...

GL with Strange Horizons, Lillie! I'm right up there with you, a couple of days from their average RT. The thing with Strange Horizons though is that they tend to do a lot of rejections around the 30 day mark and a lot of rejections at the 60-80 day stage... so the Duotrope average RT is a bit deceptive. It sounds like you've made it past their first round of Rs but I wouldn't begin worrying about a response for another couple of weeks yet.

Lol, I meant that on duo's stats, the longest sub has been there for 82 days, and I've been there for 81. So, one day off the top spot on duo.
But on SH's own status page, they say that the thing they've had for longest is at 89 days. So clearly that's someone who don't use Duotrope. I guess that they are thinking about my story, or it's slid down behind the radiator. Must be one or the other.

So it looks like W1S1ers account for a disproportionate number of the top-spot-holders on duotrope's pending list?
Must be our collective awesomeness. Or a karmic need to learn patience in this lifetime.

It only happens occasionally for me. But it's nice when it does.

It does feel kind of exhilarating when that happens.
![]() Nothing currently beyond the estimated RT's for me, so after the frenetic activity at the beginning of this month I can look forward to lots of crickets in the near future.

R from the Evolved Publishing short story contest. Well, no R, actually; they posted the winners on FB, and I wasn't one of them. Oh well. Story submitted to new market in five minutes. Onward.

I'm going to start killing my crickets. I'm the longest sub out at two of seven places and at least five days overdue at five out of seven places. I am not getting my hopes up though, because it seems like the minute I get my hopes up, I get depressing form rejections.

I'm still waiting on Rs from both Apex and Abyss & Apex (which I'm ashamed to admit I thought were the same magazine for years). Must be getting close on them both now.

Aww man. So sorry about the rejections, Shadow, Jazz, Meret, Lillie and Matt. A few should be coming in for me anytime now, too.

Two rejections for me today as well, but my spirits are still up. Commiserations, everyone!
P.S. Where would you send a sword & sorcery flash story? I seem to be exhausting my usual target markets on this one.

R today from Camera Obscura, but I was expecting it. At least I think it was one tier up from the most common form? And it had the most expected time left on Duotrope of all my submissions. Still waiting on the ones I have hope for.
