My mother would be happy about this...
She was a mom, a devout Christian, and a nurse... and knew the value of proper medical care that meets a woman's needs.

I'm glad they're finally reporting that he's doing something as a president rather than eating a meal or sitting on a particular piece of historic white house furniture or Today, a maid handed Obama a bottle of Windex and a cloth by mistake. Hopefully we're past all the novelties.
This was a bold move and I'm glad he did it.

I still think Bush should go bowling.
Bowling is better than golfing.

Reading the article, I wonder what is stopping the next Republican in the White House to reserve it?

Nothing. Which is a great thing about American politics - every 4-8 years, we pretty much bounce back to the opposite side of the spectrum, on average keeping things in the middle. Not the best solution, but still better than waiting 30 or 40 years for radical (and violent) policy shifts.

So far, I'm loving Obama's policy decisions.

It's terrible. Our taxes--mine too--go to this killing. It is not our business to help mothers kill their babies in other countries--or this one. Government should not be funding this phony health issue.

Should our tax dollars also not go to the rest of the medical care they are giving? These tax dollars weren't only being held from the abortions themselves, but from any group who's aide included abortions. The mother dying due to lack of proper health care is worth it, just so long as her unborn child's life is not threatened? Not to mention, we're talking about countries with issues such as overpopulation and starvation. Bringing more children into situations like that is even more cruel than "killing" them before they are forced to know such conditions. Not all countries have the same luxury as we do to consider abortion a "debate." |

I'd rather see a woman get a legal, safe abortion than attempt to do it herself or let someone unqualified perform one.
Yay for Obama! (I don't anticipate I'll say that very often)

But, to blanket-statement/ban all groups who offer information on abortion is like blanket bans on controversial books. Ah, I know...books are inanimate objects, but their contents have been known to topple empires at the cost of lives. I want to rant, but am trying to keep the tone to a civilized voice. All I can say is this. Information, whether it comes from a doctor or a book, cannot force someone to build a bomb or have an abortion. But, information can give people choices. It can open doors to new cultures, it can capture sentiment, it can give healers stronger tools to save lives, it can help people choose a better way of life, it can provide inspiration, and most of all, it can offer hope where there was despair. Ignoring information is your choice. Burying information so it doesn't reach others is, well.... imo, wrong. |

I'm all for fortifying Roe v. Wade and making abortion more accessible in the US, but I don't understand all the glee over this ruling. If it was some ruling giving US women full rights over their own bodies, I'd be cheering, too. This is about spending US tax money overseas.
Seems more money will be departing the country when it would be better spent right here at home. Isn't that the same argument used for pulling out of Iraq? |

Iraq is a military occupation.
This is reversing a ban on funding. There's a difference. A sizable one. And, really, I'd rather for us to be known for trying to provide education and medical care than invading countries...

I find the deaths of the Iraq war much more objectionable than the money spent there.
The money AND the deaths would be more acceptable to me if I believed the war was necessary in the first place. But really, you're comparing apples to telephone poles. The money spent on overseas health programs is a drop in the bucket compared to what we're spending in Iraq. The money spent on these overseas programs are intended to PREVENT death; Iraq's kinda the other way around. The justification for these programs is definitely there. The Iraq war started out with faulty intelligence...these programs have been REQUIRED to give out faulty (as in incomplete, where complete could save lives) information. Seriously. The ban on giving cash to health programs that even gave out INFORMATION on abortion was seriously wrong. If an abortion was the only way to save a woman's life, or the only way she'd be able to continue supporting her ten living children, then she should at least have the right to know that they EXIST. Otherwise, you're placing your morality over her life and the life of her existing children.

How--and why? Why are we tp pay for such a procedure in other countries--and this one? It has nothing to do with security. It has nothing to do with our economy. It has nothing to do with anything that you can pay for if you wish or othr countries can pay for if it weren't for our government.
