New Question of the Week

Now that the holidays are (mostly) behind us, what is the next big celebration you're looking forward to?

This can be an official holiday, or just a private party. It might be something at work, or with distant relatives. Heck, if you're celebrating your cat's birthday, that's okay, too.

Though we may all look at you a little funny for that last one.

Around here, the next big deal is my daughter's birthday in February. That's the one we pull out all the stops for in my house.

February is a big month here too: Mom, Dad, Brother, Brother's wife, all have birthdays within the first two weeks.

Referring back to the Christmas decorations, our tradition is the 6th January. It's because the 12 days of Christmas - it isn't just a song - have finished.

Next big celebration is my son's birthday on the first of March.

Um, by the way, Hello!

Space or the Deep, Blue Sea?

Providing "space" includes something to do other than play a game of korkle with the aliens, maybe space. Could I write there? Would there be gravity? Could I be authorized to be the Queen and have it so every other female there would be uglier than I am? Would there be chocolate? How much chocolate? Would I have to kill to get it? How many people/aliens would I be permitted to kill? Just asking. Do I have to do my own laundry? Can I trust my laundry to be done by men who have been in space with ugly women for years? Could I watch as they did my laundry? All these things and more must be considered before I would commit myself to life in space. As to life in the ocean - I'm not really into "wet."

MyLast "Take-Out" Was

My last take out was Chinese/Mexican: Deep fried iguana tail, de-boned, cut into chunks, dipped in batter and served with a green hot sauce Satan would not touch on a dare. It comes over a bed of rice with first boiled and then fried duck feet jutting out to each side. The whole dish when properly served looks like someone screaming for help as they sink into quicksand, die and go to a place hotter than the sauce. I love the challenge of eating dangerously.

New Question of the Week

Inspired by this post over in our Sci-fi hang out,

What is your fantasy vehicle?

In another words, if you could drive/fly/sail etc any vehicle in the world, what would be your choice, and why?

In a Mickey comics book, there was a story where a character invents a car out of bubble gum. It was pink and with round curves, like a blow-up car, and it wasn't sticky or anything.

I used to be fascinated by that story. Does that car count?

I don't think I could do either! I'm terrified of heights, and I freak out when I jump into a lake and go down so deep I have to literally swim back to the surface (as opposed to just kind of bouncing up).

Both of those are terrifying! If I had to chose the lesser of two evils, I'd probably go with the sub. At least I'm not leaving the planet!!!

My fantasy vehicle would be plain old teleportation. I'd like to blink and be where I want to be.

As a mom I'd love a teleporter. As a traveler I'd miss getting lost in the process. Most of the coolest places I have been have decidedly been because I didn't know where I was.

New QotW

Inspired by our last question, no less. We may actually be running the risk of having a theme here.

If you could visit any fictional land, where would you go?

While I'm tempted to say Middle Earth, there's too many things there that seem somewhat less than pleasant to run into (though I'd love to wander Rivendell, or Moria ... pre-Balrog, of course).

So, in the interest of coming back alive - Neverland.

Plus I'd get to fly. Can't argue with that.

Tattooine is the the one that comes to mind. I'd get me a speeder and ride around the desert and meet a jawa! JAWAS!

A close second would be the ancient world of the dinosaurs in the TV show Terra Nova. It looks amazing!

I'd like to go to the Constitutional Republic of the United States of America--now a fictional land. This socialist democracy stuff sucks.

I'm not familiar with this fictional land at all.

Shimmera is a devastatingly beautiful land en-shadowed by just enough darkness to make it interesting. It is the culmination of every fascinating place I have ever been or read about. It includes a city that is Tolkienesque, another that is infused with different levels of magic, and many more that I won't list. Many of the characters are so comfortable to me they are like family.

Of course I can not go to the one place in Shimmera that I truly want , no adults are allowed.

It is a MG book
