I've seen various posters offer rep points for people who would beta some of their work.

Now I'm having people help me, and would like to offer rep points for their help. But what's the best way to do that?

Just randomly select one of their posts, and add to the reputation with the reason?

Pretty much that. Go to their posts, whichever catch your fancy, then click the rep scales and write a comment, maybe add a dancing banana. What? They are so cool. :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana:
