Okay, I get Jackie Robinson and MLK Jr., and Roots, and February, but what is the meaning of Clue #2?

Maybe I was conflating attitudes toward Black History Month with right-wing opposition to Martin Luther King Day. You may remember that Jesse Helms, Ronald Reagan and John McCain were all opposed to MLK Day, when it was first proposed. Also, I have some right-wing friends who once said to me, "Why do they deserve a whole month?" Still, perhaps that wasn't a very good clue. Sorry if I misled you. :e2thud:

I think I may be snowbound for the weekend...so it's definitely scramble time.

UNARTICULATE NOB MENFOLK
love their cars even though it doesn't fit the scramble numbers.

Ahhh. It threw me off because to me right-wing or left-wing connotes fanatic or "way out there" and if I recall, Reagan, at least, was opposed to adding another paid federal holiday to the budget, not to honoring Dr. King, which is not to deny there were lots of right-wing fanatics who opposed it for racial reasons.

Oh, what a sneaky one! In that wonderful TV series, the first name of LIEUTENANT FRANK COLUMBO was never mentioned, but it did appear onscreen once when he flashed his ID.

(If it WAS mentioned at some point, I plead the 5th. :D)

Good work, oh humble one.

I am not sure if it was shown or mentioned or I just hallucinated it, as happens with so much in my life. But if you got the Lieutenant and the Columbo, it was not such a great stretch to figure out "Frank" from the five leftover letters, now was it?

Thomas Alva Edison

Donald Weder is the florist...then there's those IBM fellas.

With all the ragots we pharf these days, I'm not surprised that you'd go for the apple. I would too if I had any. But I find myself clean out of 'em. Come to think of it I don't got enough clues either.

Can you fix this, Rev?

Oh and how close am I?
