The term Staycation was originally (publicly) coined by Brent Butt, the creator of the Canadian comedy series Corner Gas.

Walmart is presently seeking to trademark the term in their bid to advertise ways to vacation at home.

In the episode of Corner Gas, Brent spends his vacation across the street from the gas station on a lawn chair, sending random postcards from exotic locations to his friends. When they venture near him, he speaks in 'postcardese', simply responding to their queries with an update on his 'vacation'.

It's freakin' funny.

call me clueless but I had never heard the word until yesterday -- and then suddenly it was on the radio FIVE times -- a commercial about swimming pool cleaners. The first couple of times I laughed.....after I just changed the station.
