I want to build a website which will be a place to promote my future books, advertise my work as a non-fiction writer-for-hire, and also possibly blog.

I know that many novelists also write non-fiction, edit, write ad copy, design web pages, etc. as a way of making ends meet, and I'd like to look at a few examples of how this is reflected on their websites, to help me think about how to design and structure my own site.

Here's one example of the kind of thing I'm looking for more of.

So, what's out there?

(I'm not sure if this is the right sub-forum, so feel free to move it or point me to similar threads that I've missed).

Thanks!

It's definitely a good idea to have an author site and blog and both can be incorporated into one. I am not sure if this is the style you are looking for but I created a website using blogger. When you enter the main page it is my blog which is updated often to keep viewers engaged. There are tabs at the top which lead to other pages such as "My Work", "Event", and "Store". Take a look it may or may not be what your looking for.

I did my own website using Adobe Muse. Personally, I think anyone can use Wordpress or Blogger to create a website to accomplish a decent author site, and it's free. Here is my website, done in Muse (and I am not claiming to be a professional designer):

Here's another example of a website done in Blogger (like K.N. Porter's above), which I personally feel is easier to use than Wordpress:

Here are some of my favorite author websites:

Feel free to PM me if you have questions about software. I've used several and can give you my opinion of each.

Thanks for those links, Angie.

It's interesting to see that they're all professionally designed, apart from yours (I scrolled down to the bottom to check). I am definitely not planning to hire anyone to do mine, and I'm making progress in my struggles with wordpress. I believe that if I can get a handle on that, I'll be able to create the site I want, myself.

This thread is really useful! I've been wondering about how to tidy and organise my blog (which is a mess at the moment). So I have to say the links here are really helpful and have given me lots of useful ideas. Thanks! :)
