Hello. My name is Trevor and I'm a new member. I was wondering if anyone else has had any dealings with Altin Bilek publishers out of Turkey, or their owner Ilker Balkin? I have just had to terminate my contract with them and was wondering if others have had a similar experience? I'm happy to discuss off-forum if appropriate.

I'm going to move this to BR&BC, where it's a better fit. Hang on.

Re CaoPaux

A link to their website is no response. Please post only if you have something to contribute to the thread. I wouldn't like it to be used as an opportunity to promote these people.

Thanks

Trevor

Um, CaoPaux is the Moderator of this section. (Bewares, Recommendations, & Background Checks). Adding a link is standard for these threads.

No worries.

Were you working with them for a translation of an existing book? What problems did you have?

Links help us research the publisher's online presence.

I've not heard about this particular publisher. I know some authors who've done well with Turkish translations from other publishers. I've heard of others who will never touch the Turkish market again because they are cautious about Turkish libel, obscenity, and blasphemy laws, and the Turkish government's human rights abuses.

Some notable cases:

http://bianet.org/english/religion/106112-turkish-publisher-of-god-delusion-acquitted

http://www.victoriastrauss.com/2011/12/19/publisher-alert-arvo-basim-yayin-of-turkey/

Your mileage may vary.

Trevor, if you can do so in a matter-of-fact professional way, can you describe why you severed ties with this publisher? If you feel threatened, go ahead and PM me - but that won't help get the word out to future authors reading this thread. You'll have to strike a balance between what you may and may not wish to say in public.

I severed ties after 5 months constant stalling over paying the advance agreed in our contract. I was told of other issues, but the author told me in strictest confidence and it's not appropriate for me to repeat them publicly (just hearsay).

Updating URL: http://www.buyukkitaplar.com/

If Google is to be believed, name translates to Golden Wrist Publications. Div. of Big Books Publishing (Büyük Kitaplar Yayıncılık A. Ş.)
