Yesterday's rejection of my YA novel was the most polite and personal yet. As if it came from a old friend. OK, an old friend of an old friend.

I have decided that the growing politeness is a reflection that the ms is improving with each sub. :)

With this one I am done with exclusive subs, from now on it's as many as I can get out as soon as possible.

Sorry about the reject, but it does sound promising that the replies are decent. When you get a reply that details something about your work that they liked and the "thing" that didn't grab them, that's when you know you're on the home stretch. Good luck!

I'd have to agree with the others. It sounds like its getting close to a yes.

Rest you merry, gentleman! Looks like you're creeping ever closer to that acceptance.

I also agree. As we know, some can be very blunt and rude so nice polite rejections go a long way for me.

Nice rejections are sometimes more painful than a simple "not for us."

My worse rejection was from an editor who said, "I started this at 4 o'clock, and wanted to keep reading, so I took it home. I was so wrapped up in the story that I almost missed my stop on the subway. I'm sleep-deprived from reading it into the night. Unfortunately, as talented as Mr. Smith is, this book is not quite right for our list."

Well...Duh-h-h.
