Favourite / funniest memory involving a grandparent?

All those times when Nanny and I would hide out in the kitchen and have our meal together there while everyone else was eating at the table. It was peaceful and we got to giggle over all the stupid, petty bickering and one-upping going on in the other room -- miles ahead of being in the middle of it . . . and the target of a lot of it.

What's your favourite / funniest moment of a cultural misunderstanding?

When the 6'4" wooly mammoth redneck decided it was a good idea to beat my client, a wiry 5'4" Glaswegian, and his girlfriend (WMR's ex-wife, whom he had put in the hospital numerous times by assaulting her), to a pulp after kicking in the apartment door.

WMR wound up in the hospital in critical condition. When he tried to press charges, the DA decided to do so -- and charged him with aggravated assault as well as breaking and entering.


Favorite memory of an awkward moment at a family gathering?

Not really my favorite, but the most memorable: when my sleazy uncle hit on me when I was 17. And no, it was not a joke. =/
