Hey out there, hello! :hi:

I only started writing after decades of voracious reading in several genres. Seems a really bad example of character/plot believability annoyed me enough that I had to write a different ending... which snowballed into three novel length fanfics posted and another twenty things from parody to farce.

But my last NaNo was an original work, which I think is a solid world and plot. Unfortunately, revising for publication is much more daunting than the more loose standards for fanfic. Nor can I afford those classes or review services, so I've been trawling ever since NaNo looking for some combination of advice and second opinion to do this. (and I have read the Newbie thing waiting for my approval)

I have managed to revise my first chapter to my satisfaction, but for 5 months progress that's discouraging. (I'm still writing other things so my muse if fine, what do you call the revision persona?)

Well, you know about the "Share Your Work" forums?

http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=26

I'm told you need to cross a 50-post threshold to be able to write to it, though.

And I have some, ah, feedback that it's not for the thin-skinned nor faint of heart. ;)

Welcome. The rest of the book probably won't take as long as the first chapter. Those first chapters have to be perfect.

Oh, I finished the end of the story already. I've been trying to to revise my draft since the end of NaNo, but I lost my critique partners due to RL. So I have a draft complete for main plot, but I'm hoping to find a new partner. Some weeks I can have four chapters looking for a second set of eyes, that I don't have horses traveling a mile in an hour on clear roads. While much of my writing is still fanfic, that doesn't mean I don't want it to have at least modest second opinions.

I love the idea, expressed on another thread that beta's efforts are of value too, as many I've met elsewhere don't. My former betas were wonderful.

I've recently started editing the first few chapters of my first book, and it really puts a lot of pressure on me because its the hook! Hopefully as the chapters progress, everything will move much faster :)
