SULLIVAN’S TRAVELS / PRESTON STURGESS

Ooh, had heard of him, but not of this movie ...

Nice job! I guess you learned that the fictitious movie in Sullivan's Travels is called O Brother, Where Art Thou?*

*...and that the Coen brothers, in their own idiosyncratic way, tried to make the movie that the character John Lloyd Sullivan, in Sturges's film, said he wanted to make. ;)

Have been reading a bit about it, just now ... ;)

OBSCURELY / ARTERIAL POWERED

1. Biography and its subject (not author)
2. Considered an authoritative biography compared wth earlier attempts, quite recently published
3. Subject died in the 1940's, British, influenced many people, and I learned only today that this wasn't actually his birth name (though it's similar, and the one under which he's always been known)
4. Subject was a poet and novelist, though not really well-known as such, compared with the main reason for his fame

5. Subject used to claim to be a reincarnation of a specific defrocked French priest who turned out, on historical investigation, still to have been alive when subject was born

I think I may have the artist, but I don't know what the painting might be.

Ah, I'm sure you'll have the artist, if you think you may have. This painting was from 1905 and I think near where he lived, if that helps ...

THE ENGLISH PATIENT / MICHAEL ONDAATJE

I've neither read the book nor seen the picture. I've always been a slow learner. Ask my Fifth Grade teacher.
