Welcome to all Weekend Updaters, past, present and future. Yes, it's a new thread for a new year!

To refresh for those long-time Progress Reporters and to clarify for all the new ones -- we're here to help you achieve your goals by being the place where you're accountable, being a cheering section, the shoulder to cry on, the folks who say those people who rejected you are fools, FOOLS, and they'll rue the day, the folks who cheer wildly when you get an acceptance, and so on.

The "Rules" for posting here are pretty simple.

1. You don't have to write humor to post here -- any writer writing in any or all genres can post here. But you can be funny if you want. We're all over the funny.
2. Every weekend, starting on Friday and ending on Sunday, we post the progress we've made with our various writing careers. This includes whatever you consider part of your career -- writing, editing, submitting, critiquing, promotion, brainstorming, research, etc. It's your career, it's up to you.
3. How to report? Give us your word count for the week, your submissions for the week, the number of words you edited during the week, any acceptances garnered, and anything else you did to move your career forward. It's that simple.
4. Since many writers are also artists and musicians, we count art- and music-related progress as well, as long as it's also part of your overall career.
5. The WPR Dominatrix (that's me) hands out virtual prizes and encouragements and so forth. We occasionally have a Guest Dominatrix because, thanks in great part to this thread, I'm traveling frequently these days. Sometimes there are reporting challenges that all are encouraged to participate in, since they build writing skills (we swear).
6. There are prizes for: The most words written in a week; the most submissions for the week; the most words edited for the week; the first to report each Friday; and the last to come in late (we don't encourage competition for this one!); the exciting news of the week (like acceptances, media coverage, getting paid, etc.); and, 2010's fave new award, the best sucking up to the thread leader. Sometimes the WPR Dominatrix hands out extra prizes, depending on her mood and what someone's done. You never can tell.
7. What counts for submissions? Anything where your piece could be rejected. Blogs count for word count, but not for submission, UNLESS your blog can (really and truly) be rejected by someone else other than yourself, aka an actual editor/boss. When posting, be sure to make the distinction for a rejectable blog, so it can count in your submissions tally for the week.
8. Remember that being accountable helps achieve goals. We encourage updates even when someone hasn't done anything or anything much. The act of reporting IS an important step, and we want to hear from you, even if it's to say you achieved squat for the week.
9. Yes, if you drift away and come back there are no penalties. This is a support thread, not your job or your mom. Therefore, it's up to you how frequently you update. Studies have shown that being accountable is a huge factor in success (seriously, and we are not making this up), but it's all down to you, and we will not be down ON you.

Still confused about how it works? Check out the 2011 & 2012 threads for examples.

Welcome to 2013, let's make this the Year of the Updaters and really achieve those career goals!

A dark, evil place.
Wait.

This isn't next year yet. There's no way I'm not getting the first nanner of 2013.

Reg, you are so unfair.

But, anyhow, no words.

I did beta work on 10K worth of someone else's words though.

Current word count approximately 500 words, going pen and paper on this one so it's annoying to count. Note to self: write word count in margins when updating here.

Not first to report, no nanner. But to prove I'm not completely sparkless, have a dancing broccoli

As long as I don't have to be held hostage...it gets quite boring after a while. Unless of course there's knife throwing or fire breathing cats to entertain me.

Started a sequel to Planet Janitor, at the request (pleading) of my publisher, and I'm now 7,800 words into it. Wrote three content articles totaling 2,100, so my total is now 9,900 words for the week. These are the first new fiction words I've written in a year. I'm sooooo tired of marketing and promotion.

The Wolfen Strain just went to paperback yesterday. It got hung up (lost) at the printers for two months. Heck, I actually thought I was print-fired. So this is a relief.

tri--red-shifting to hit the WIP.

Oh, HOPE YOU GUYS HAVE A GREAT NEW YEAR!!!

Went to the Christmas thing for my writer's group. Yes, we still discussed our writing. :)

I've found a wordpress template that I was able to tweak easily enough to suit me (stupid how there is no consistency in those things) so I can blog. I have quite a bit of content ready. It's just not live yet. It will be opinions, commentary, historical stuff, and some things from the 30s & 40s to compare to today, and a few book reviews.

Found an IP attorney to get the plagiarism of my book taken care of. I have a thread here for it in case anyone wants to catch up on the last 2 months & follow the process along for FYI reasons. (I do not name names since I don't want all that internet foolishness going on.) It's in the conquering challenges forum password serenity.

Working on ebook formatting for said book but not so easy with pictures. :(

Also learning the ins and outs of selling on Amazon 2nd edition hard copies I have left of same said book.

I want to get all the selling & reformatting stuff out of the way on the other book so it's more visible before I go back to editing the one on my siggy.

Guess that's it. Happy New Year all!

Well, it's technically not 2013 yet, but since this is my first time on this thread I want to get started right away. Hah. And it's not the weekend anymore, but I hope I get a pass because I just stumbled upon this thread.

I wrote 6,500 words of my newest MS during the weekend. Then I edited the first chapter of another MS I was working on previously, brought it down from 6800 words to around 3500 words, which was great. Cut a lot of unnecessary back story and jumped straight into the action instead. I also critiqued a 1800 words chapter for one of my critique partners.

I wrote about five blog posts, most of which are about New Year's goals or my newest MS. Only one is out so far, rest is scheduled.

Phew! That's it.
