Yep, Hester & Snappy, those buggers are big and fast. Whenever a water bug hits something after the lights go on there's always a loud bang.
The Palmetto Bug is no joke. I learned about them when I lived down South. They look very similar to the female NYC Water Bug, which is actually the Oriental Cockroach, the main difference is that the Palmetto Bug can fly. The small cochroaches we see in houses is the German Cockroach while the huge ones in commercial buildings and subways is the American Cockroach.
Now, to nip it in the butt.
Jeeze, Cricket, how many times are you going to be attacked by animals? It's like a Hitchcock movie.
I actually laughed out loud when I read this--a rarity for me.
I got a bug story too. I was 11ish and brushing my teeth in the bathroom. I filled the cup with water to rinse out my mouth and thought one of my braces got knocked loose inside my mouth because I felt something prickly on my tongue.
I spit out a roach and scream with disgust. I gulp down hot water, which burns my tongue, but I don't care. Use mouth wash, toothpaste, whatever, to clean my mouth. If I had bleech near me I would have drank that too.
Got back from the doctor. Turns out my thyroid is enlarged and she's sending me for a slew of blood tests. Joy. I'm actually hoping - as is the doc - that it's a thyroid issue and can be knocked out with some meds.
So glad there might be an answer waiting, Snappy.
Also, got an R on a full from one of the big 6 editors today. Ah well. At least it's Friday.
{{kelli}} My son was home sick yesterday, too. Ugh.
{{Snappy}} Boo for R, but yay that you have a diagnosis. Usually the drs say, "All your tests came back normal. It must be stress. Here's a prescription for Prozac."
Ha! I love it when doctors say, "Are you stressed?" I mean, who isn't stressed???
I'm sitting here with a baby opossum on my lap. Found it outside, lying on the cement. It's got fur, but is no bigger than 4". Animal control says to bring it in, but they can't guarantee they won't put it to sleep. Anyone got any suggestions?
Yep, I had myself a nice hot cup of cockroach juice for breakfast. *still shudders and dry heaves thinking about it*
