Hi all :)

I'm Anna and I live in Melbourne, Australia. I've been writing all my life, recently carving out something of a Sad Person Niche in the feature writing field. In 2012 my features have been commissioned by around 15 different publications, including my personal mecca of feature writing, Marie Claire.

Now I've been working on plotting and outlining a novel, but the problem I'm facing is switching from features to fiction. I'm writing 3-4 features each week and finding that it's really hurting my attention span! I've grown used to building and finishing a story in ~1200 words, so I feel like I'm rushing through the novel writing to get to the point. Besides that I'm used to deadlines measured in hours and days, which means editing as you go, so getting the first draft out is just a really tough slog. I'm hoping being here might help me work through these issues.

Thanks for having me!

I wouldn't worry about rushing through to get to the point. If that's how you're getting your story out, fine. When you're done, close it and leave it for a bit. Then in a week or 2 or even a month go back, read it slowly and begin adding to it and filling in to tell the complete story.
