Pulled a couple of songs off my computer and burned them to play when I was sad. Which is, these days, about 90% of the time.

It includes:

Brooks and Dunn, Every River Run Dry
Garth Brooks, One Night a Day
Mark Chestnutt, I'll Think of Somethin'
John Denver, Like a Sad Song
Glass Hammer, This Fading Age
Clay Aiken, I Will Carry You
Bon Jovi, Always
Indigo Girls, Blood and Fire
Keith Green, Rushing Wind
Chris Isaak, Wicked Game
Annie Lennox, Into the West
Allison Krause, I Am Weary, Let Me Rest

This is my "thinking of lclary" cd. :(

Going through a "grieving period" (I hate the name of it, because it sounds so damn superficial and takes away the intensity of it) is much needed. And so are lots of hugs.

My mom asks "Do I need to buy you a book?"

"A book?" says I.

"A book on grieving," says she.

"Noooooo. I pretty much got that part down," says I.

God bless ya, Dave. You're in a state of grace right now that I think even you are largely unaware of.

A book on grieving isn't a bad idea, Deek. Really.

My best friend lost her new husband to esophageal cancer within months after they wed. Instead of a card, I got her a book... and she says that book did her more good than anything else.

Grieving isn't something we're born knowing how to do. It isn't instinctive. Let mom get you a book... it just might help you both.

I don't know about other people, Deek but when I get really depressed I like to listen to AC/DC cranked way way up. I can't do much more than that for you bud. Take care of yourself. We's here for you.

Another good song is "The Dance" by Garth Brooks. I also listened to "Holes in the Floor of Heaven by Steven Warner also helped me, too. I am so sorry you are going through this.

Hey, Dave, I'm glad you're here posting. Everyone grieves in their own way. Maybe you're not ready to read a book on grieving. If your mom gives it to you, put it aside, and maybe you will read it someday. Maybe. You don't know and can't know right now.

You're compiling a list of songs for grieving. Turn up the volume. Let it wash over you.

Dave, this is the song that got me through a very dark time...

"The Show Must Go On" by Queen:
"Empty spaces, what are we living for?
Abandoned places, I guess we know the score,
On and on, does anybody know what we are looking for?
Another hero, another mindless crime,
Behind the curtain, in the pantomime
On and on, does anybody know what we are living for?

"The show must go on,
The show must go on,
Inside my heart is breaking, my makeup may be flaking, but my smile still stays on...

"Whatever happens, I'll leave it all to chance,
Another heartache, another failed romance,
On and on, does anybody know what we are living for?
I guess I'm learning, I must be stronger now
I'll soon be turning around that corner now
Outside the dawn is breaking, but inside in the dark I'm aching to be free

"The show must go on
The show must go on
Inside my heart is breaking, my makeup may be flaking,
But my smile still stays on

"My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies
Fairytales of yesterday that grow and never die
I can fly, my friends

The show must go on
The show must go on
I'll face it with a grin, I'm never giving in!
On with the show!

I'll top the bill, I'll overkill, I have to find the will to carry on with the show...
The show must go on..."

((((Big hugs)))

Edit - there's another line from another song - "If I could wave my magic wand, I would make everything all right..." If I could... :(

D, the funeral home (and some businesses in town) sent me a book on grieving, along with the thank you cards to send to the businesses for their part in me receiving the book. Yeah, haven't looked at it, not sure where it is, but it's here somewhere. Maybe some day I'll read it, maybe not.

oh, and the song I picked for his going-away party was Islands in the Stream (I think) sung by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.

When I was severely depressed -- over a divorce, many years ago now -- I used to sit in the dark and listen to Hoyt Axton sing "It's all right now." It wasn't, of course, but there was a promise implicit in that song which said that I'd work my way through it, eventually, somehow. Cyber hugs, Deek.

Dave,

:Hug2:

Music can be a very powerful and healing tool.

Others to consider for your CD:
Tears In Heaven, Eric Clapton
Back of Your Hand, Dwight Yoakam

Listen to your CD's mate. Make some more like them. Do whatever you need to do right now. It's ok to feel sad. You don't need to cheer up or move on. Take your time...

What happened to you and LClancy is simply terrible.

As hard or cold as I can feel at times, I can't listen to "Dust in the Wind" without feeling something.

Thanks, Pagey. I forgot I need to add "Who Wants to Live Forever" from the Highlander soundtrack.

Oooh, Dave--I don't find many other people out there who like or have even heard of Keith Green. Such passion and sorrow and longing in his songs can truly be something to hear.

Another source of Christian music you might like is John Michael Talbot--his music is a bit orchestral, but uplifting in a simple, elemental way.

And Michael Card is good, too. "Deep Enough to Dream" is a beautiful song, and it might provide you with some comfort.

Still thinking about you, Dave, every day--and praying your broken heart will mend.

I also have to recommend Beth Nielsen Chapman. She wrote the songs on her Sand and Water CD when she lost her husband to cancer.

Music makes me feel better, and I listened to it a lot when I lost an uncle and my father, within one year. Most of the time, anything that would make me cry made me feel better, because crying seemed to release all the emotions I couldn't release any other way.

I've only ever lost my uncle and my father, so I can't imagine the pain you are going through. I'm sending huge hugs your way.
