Word 2010 - Line Spacing in Footnotes

I'm asking on behalf of The Kid, who's writing a huge paper. She has divided it into different documents she can work on, and presumably show professors, in Word 2010.

In one document, the footnotes are fine. The font is right, the margins are right, the single-spaced lines are right.

In all the others, starting from the same blank document, the footnotes are double-spaced. She can change each one to single spacing once it's written, but she doesn't see a place to set the default to single spacing.

I don't even have Word 2010, so I'm no help--except that I know all of you.

There is a default style in word called footnote text or footnote (not to be confused with the default style for the footnote reference number). Change that default style to whatever she wants the footnote style to be.
