Old People Writing for Teens, IV

Today gets to be a Love Sucks day. I got the 2nd mock-up on the cover, and I'm deciding what to do with it. Meanwhile, I'm working on the "cover" copy.

My query was 230 words, and this needs to be 150 or less. Oi

WTG, allison!

My blurb is coming down to whether I want to sacrifice a line for the tagline or not. The tagline is going to be on the publisher site and probably any review sites they send it to, but won't be on Amazon (I checked). In some ways it makes sense to use it as the tagline, but I hate losing the line in the Amazon product description. (It's my lovely "How much love would a love sucker suck if a love sucker fell in love?" line)

But then I have to find 13 more words to cut

I guess I wonder how much of the big request rate I got for the book came from that first line which included the tongue-twister and how much came from the rest of the query. If only we could look inside agents/publishers/readers' heads and know.

Working on TM while I consider the blurb for LS. I realize that last night I was pretty much going to let the MC have sex with this other girl, and that totally would have been the wrong move. Reasons why you shouldn't write at 1 a.m.

Actually, he literally can't have as much sex as possible because he'd spontaneously combust. Even thinking about sex puts his system on overload until he recharges (sleeps). He's not programmed for sex, so it's a really big deal.

Approved my LS cover mockup! I'll share when it's finalized!

I have it mostly done (if I separate the one line for the tagline) and just will need to smooth out the corners. If I return the one line, I have to cut 14 words (I added one). I'm hoping for some feedback in a hidden critique room (I don't want it to be remotely public 'til finalized) to figure out if the blurb hooks fine without the tongue twister. I'm reminding myself that I have 9 days to get it right.

Oh, they just sent out an e-mail saying the website where I'd send the blurb to is going to be down for the rest of today anyway. Guess I don't have to worry about finishing that today or getting my final cover art.

Ages ago, there was a thread where your characters answered and asked questions of each other, and it was good practice for voice (and eventually for motivation).

And over time it became more than just one simple answer and one question. The characters had huge conversations with each other.

But even though there were three going on at a time for a while. they all eventually died out.
