Hello, everyone!
My name is Samantha, and I'm very glad to have found these forums. When I stumbled upon them via a google query about whether a certain literary agent was or was not legitimate, I felt the magnitude of the site: It was as though I were wading into what I thought was a pool, only to discover that it was the ocean. I feel the connectedness and the weight of all of the writers on this site supporting and helping one another to achieve their dreams.
Flattery and poetry aside, I recently discovered that my job in a boring corporate environment was my way of ignoring what I wanted to do with my life. While it's a relief to finally admit that to myself, writing in itself is a big undertaking. Waiting to research the publishing industry until I had finished my book was the right choice. If I hadn't, I might never have gotten around to finishing it. Likely, I would have instead been up until 3 a.m. reading and writing posts on this site, which would have led to additional posts bemoaning the fact that I can never find time to finish my book. And no one wants that. Although delayed, what I have discovered in this past week is that a whole gigantic world of support exists for those who just wanted to WRITE.
Long story short, I'm happy to be here, happy to meet you all, and a fervent believer in the serial comma. Because that's how we learned it in school.
However, I embrace Pluto's demotion to a Kuiper Belt Object.
