I wrote a sex scene when I was a very little kid. Like, 11 or 12. The worst part is it wasn't half bad.

Also not very detailed.

Haha. I read something ages ago about the worst sex scenes the previous year. I found it via the NaNo websites. I'll see if I can find something similar...

I don't see why you can't write about sex just because you haven't had it...

If anyone followed that logic, I wouldn't be allowed to write kiss scenes :p

If you never had it i think you could still write about it. Wouldnt have first hand experience, but i've also never killed anyone and i write about that all the time. I'm not a Freak either but i can write about all the stuff it entails really well.

I just dont want to write it because i wouldnt feel comfortable doing so. When i brought up how i dont like writing kiss scenes once back when i first joined on some random thread, someone advised me to go kiss someone more and then write about it afterwards, yeah, didnt work at all. Just dont like writing about that stuff i guess.

ETA: See i think that's another reason i could never write a sex scene, never watched porn. I'm 21 and i still turn my head during sex scenes in movies. Guess i'm a weirdo.

A world of pure imagination...
No you're not, Ally. I don't watch them, either. And I'm older than you (slightly). There are a lot of people who would rather not watch a sex scene.

ETA Although I will admit that compared to a lot of people, I am kind of weird when it comes to this stuff. Not only do I not watch sex scenes, I get uncomfortable talking/thinking about it. I also generally prefer G or PG kiss scenes (*REAL* PG. Not what they're calling PG now. Half of that would've been PG-13 ten years ago (or less)).

Don't worry, i'm the same. Except, I've never kissed a guy (or girl) so I don't even have that to compare to. I've tried writing sex scenes and I feel like my mum's peering over my shoulder (even though she isnt) because I'm that uncomfortable and awkward.
lol

I always get the feeling that someone is peering over my shoulder when I'm drawing people kissing xD But I've managed to get over it... somewhat. I just choose a position from which no one can peer over my shoulder.

ETA: I'm pretty sure a lot of people don't watch porn/sex scenes in movies, actually. So long as you don't start thinking that your significant other watching porn = cheating, you'll be fine.

See i dont mind watching kissing scenes at all, and i dont mind the "fade to black" kind of sex scenes in movies. I just get toooooo uncomfortable watching anything else. Which I find is weird because my mom let me watch movies and TV shows that no child should ever be allowed to see at a very young age, and at inapproperate parts she would just make me turn my head.

Kat- you dont really need anything to compare it too. Honestly kissing was exactly how i thought it would be so i was relieved i sort of protrayed it right in my books before i actually had my first kiss... and i was rather late to get my first kiss. (with my one an only boyfriend at 17. All my friends had there at like 12-14) SHHHHHH dont tell my boyfriend but i was very dissapointed by my first kiss, i thought there would be more too it in a way. Thought fireworks would go off or something... but they didnt.

Heh, I haven't kissed anyone yet, but it's probably close to what I've had dreams of. Nothing special, but still pleasant.

ETA: I can't write character bios... I go off in tangents and write about the little details of their lives instead.

A lot of kissing scenes in YA novels are incredibly vague. It's all, "Our lips met and I had an unspecific experience of generalised happiness. How amazing!" It doesn't take any real-life experience to write that. :tongue

I'm trying to make it nice to read (I'll never know when I'll need it), but still informative. Not that I don't like Wikipedia, but...

ETA: Dinner time.

Case in point! I'm currently reading Gwen Hay3s' FALL1NG UNDER and this just came up:

I kissed him then. It was a promise of heartache. Something tugged at me from the inside, loosening the knot of desire I’d kept hidden, and unleashing dark, mysterious tendrils of yearning. Haden’s breathing changed, causing a flare of white-hot awareness to my core. I needed him, needed to be closer, to touch his skin.

Note the vagueness? "I kissed him. Something vague happened. I had vague feelings of yearning." Anyone can do this.

My character profiles well are just lists of things.. name, nickname, decription, personality.

Well unless were talking about the Freak Files... I wrote those like detailed lab reports!

And i think this is the perfect example of why i cant write kissing scenes well, because, well... none of that stuff mentioned I ever thought of or really felt while kissing. hahahaha.

"causing a flare of white-hot awareness to my core." Like i get its for the purpose of imagery and stuff but nope never happened to me.

I was going to make an inappropriate comment about all the euphemisms in that passage, and what a "flare of white-hot awareness" in a character's "core" actually means, but then I remembered that there are young teenagers reading this thread. :tongue

Pffft, Para xD

I draw reference pictures instead of writing bios, mainly because it's far too easy to get lost without those >_>
