Ahh, the name of episode 10! That gave me chills reading that, thanks for sharing, Parametric. "All men must die."

Very excited for the next few episodes. I imagine the House of the Undying will be this coming episode as they'll probably dedicate the entirety of episode 9 to King's Landing area (and the Blackwater).

Yay! Cannot wait.

Well, this episode was too short...

Vary's returned but I am not sure what we learned from his appearance.

Arya followed the script and gave the name I expected. But now she has to take it back and give another. I will have to reread to see who the last name is again...

Dani and Jon's scenes were just set ups for the last episode, or so I believe. Kings Landing is going to be the focal point in the next episode and the previews look wild. I suspect Dani goes to the House of the Undying next week, but we won't see its outcome until the final episode.

Tyrion, he is worried. Worried he will fail to protect not only Kings Landing but his little whore. You know, thinking back on her, I can't recall her calling Tywin her giant of Lannister, which was a quote she used in the book often.

Robbie and his little Lady, nicely done scene. I also liked the way he handled his mother.

Bree and Jamie are setting up some interesting scene's for season three.

Theon, sure didn't like what his sister had to say and he is having a big problem shaking Winterfell and Ned's influence. I like his sister and I wish Martin had wrote more in for her. She is a very strong female character. Still, the cast is so large now...

So next week is the Blackwater and a few other scenes. The week after should finish up some unfinished business and set us up for season three.

Will all the scenes each week, the season feels long, but 10 episodes are not enough, IMHO. Especially episodes like tonight which felt it was just getting started when it ended... Grrrr....

I'm sure the books are great, and worth discussing in a different forum.

Boy, Theon has made a fascinating series of bad decisions. I could understand his deciding to commit to his blood family and their miserable culture. But he's doesn't fit in there either; there's no place for him, really.

Considering Joffrey's a psychopath, it's probably a good thing he's not too bright.

That's like saying there is only 7 days to Christmas. The days seem all to long when one is waiting...

I think there is already a non-book spoilery thread HERE if you prefer to resurrect that one. We've pretty much been talking books for most of this thread and try to hide spoilers. (Try being the operative word. A few things have slipped out, but nothing huge.)

Less than seven days until "Blackwater." **rubs hands gleefully**
I found that part of the book a chore to read through, but I'm really looking forward to seeing it on the screen.

Great episode, imho. Kind of scattered thin with all the storylines, but I enjoyed it. Loved Arya's "last name." Very well done. Jaqen's response was pretty priceless. Seeing this on the (small) screen and rereading those sections makes me long for a standalone story about Jaqen, ya know? That's a character I'd love to follow for a solid 500 pages. The actor is doing a fabulous job.

Too little time with Jon Snow. It went by so fast what Qoren Halfhand was doing that my husband looked at me and said, "uh, what just happened?" Needed to go in depth that Qoren:

1. Knew that Jon Snow wouldn't kill the wildling girl.
2. Wants Jon Snow to do whatever it takes to figure out the wildling's plans to march on the Wall.

Too quick on these small parts. And where is Ghost?

Tyrion = golden as usual. He and Varys are a joy to watch (yay on Varys' return).

WTF was the point of the one scene with Dany and Jorah? They could have put that in another episode easily.

Stannis and Davos. Excellent conversation between them. Makes me love Davos even more. He's one of my favorite characters hands down.

Joffrey is an idiot, but we already know that.

Jaime and Brienne is already fun to watch. Cannot wait to see that take form in season 3 as well.

Robb and the girl (sorry, don't even remember her name) was interesting. I wonder... (spoilers) >>>> If it will turn out that the lady was in fact planted there by Cersei from the get-go to force Robb to break his oath. >>>> I do like that they are giving Robb more meat in the series than in the books. I like seeing this side of him.

And, look at that. Ros actually has a purpose in one episode. Cersei thinks she has Tyrion's whore and he has Ros instead. Interesting. I wonder who set that up. Varys?

If I remember right, Cercie did find a whore, its just the whore was unnamed in the book. What I do not remember from the books is Tyrion proclaiming his love for little little whore. Not openly. Maybe I need to reread...

It was interesting that Cersei mentioned Lord Varys "has no cock". Presumably, the culture in which he was made a eunuch practices castration of both the testicles and penis. I think they used to do that in China; maybe because it was a punishment.

I've really enjoyed how the series started with just a few locations -- Winterfell, King's Landing, and the Wall -- to let us start to feel at home in its world, and has gradually expanded our view, with other exotic locations and cultures. Using the map of the show's world in the title sequence was a great idea.

I thought that in the book, the whore is Aylaya (my spelling is way off), who either runs the whorehouse that Tyrion frequented (as a cover, I believe) or was the whore who always led him to where he really went whenever he used the whorehouse as a cover.

Huh. I hope this makes sense.

Yes, it was Alayaya, who worked at Chataya's brothel, which is the one with the secret passage Tyrion went through to visit Shae. So it appeared as though Tyrion was seeing Alayaya when he was actually seeing Shae.

Manual, yes, if I recall Varys has been completely removed of root and berries. I think it's in his past as to why he has no manparts, but I seem to recall it not being his choice at all. I do know he was a slave in the country of Lys which is across the Narrow Sea, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

It's definitely a "theme" at times in Martin's work. You come across others like Varys later in the series.

Here is another interesting thought...

We haven't seen anything of Ser Dontos after Joffrey made him a court jester.

It probably will, but a little foreshadowing would be nice, especially since the scene was such a throwaway moment in the show compared to the books. I imagine a lot of viewers will have forgotten it.

Unless they're planning to change that particular plot point. I might be misremembering, but
wasn't he essentially unimportant in the grand scheme of things? He made a lot of promises, but from what I recall it was Littlefinger who finally rescued her, albeit using him as a tool to achieve it. Given how they seem to be trying to cut down on extra characters, I can see how he'd be a reasonably easy one to cut.

In non-spoilery goodness, I did enjoy tonight's episode. Agree that the Dany scene was a bit pointless. "I want to go to the House of Undying!" "I don't want you to go!" "I really want to go!" "Okay, we'll go."

Curious. Arya was serving the Mountain right out in the open and didn't even try to hide from him. Am I wrong in thinking that he must have seen her before, during the march from Winterfell to King's Landing, or possibly at Kings' Landing?

Ahhh Brienne. I'm really, really looking forward to the part she'll be playing in season 3.

Also, yes.

WHERE THE HELL HAS GHOST BEEN this entire season. And did they have to change Jon's storyline in all those tiny, key ways that add up to him coming across significantly more of an idiot than I remember?

Ser Dontos is a character whose scenes are small anyway, only shown through Sansa. I agree that once Littlefinger returns to Kingslanding we will get to see more of Dantos...

As to Ghost, I imagine they are trying to keep the CGI budget down with the big scene from Blackwater coming up next week. I imagine Ghost will return...when needed.

Also, in the show, they had Sam find the dragon glass stuff instead of Jon. Its not a big change up, but if I remember right, Jon had need of a piece or two in the books.

Lord Bones, interesting fellow.

Jon has Valerian steel. Sam is the one that needs the dragon glass.

I like the Lord of Bones, although I had pictured him taller.

Pity there was no weasel soup.

I liked how they used the little detail of slaves' faces being tattooed in Volantis (in the book, it was mentioned with regards to Shireen's fool) to weave into Talisa's story.

So bittersweet. We're ticking down to Blackwater and then next week, we'll be ticking down to the end of the season! (sniff)
