complex characters or simply impossible?

The easiest characters to create are the those with a specific gender
The most complex one to write out for me is one that suggest both genders.

Language has not given a twogender article which surprised me and so leaves me with a lot of thinking to do.


What other hickups have you encountered as you delved into writing?

Well, we do have words we can use for genderless characters. Sie, Hir, that sort of thing.

The words aren't widely used, though. Some sci-fi I've read has dealt with the matter by having the genderless person use either male or female pronouns for themselves based on something else. Schild's Ladder has a human future populated entirely by people who are technically genderless, and used he and she for all characters.
