"The real felon in this case, Your Honor,“ the animals' attorney rose and skirted the table pages of notes quivering in his hand, "is, the pigs' unstable mother, a Sow of approximately eight years of age, a barn-yard devil and a bad influence on the young!"
The defense called for the summary termination of the Sow instead of the travesty of a trial employing a costly judge, two prosecutors, eight witnesses, and two defense attorneys for the accused.
Eye witness testimony placed the Sow at the scene of the crime, at the speculated hour of demise and reinforced beyond a reasonable doubt that this morally challenged Sow had murdered the child.
The piglets' role, they claimed, appeared to be ambiguous. And although, they were found to be spattered with blood they were never seen directly chewing on the boy.
The judge, sentenced the sow to be hung on a hook by her tightly bound hind legs and be incised from the groin to the gullet.
All six piglets were diagnosed to be in a state of shock and morally confused, due to the outrages of an unsound mother and subsequently exonerated.
To put it another way, I want to write as masterfully and as certainly as Terry Pratchett does. To know what point I want to make and then make it with pointed humor.
In presenting this reference to a true story, I used the device of juxtaposition.
As opposed to a straight telling that made it flat:
Juxtaposition 1: "The real felon in this case, Your Honor," contrasts with, "the animals' attorney rose and skirted the table,"
At the mention of a trial the parties concerned are expected to be humans. What, then, follows, is rather unexpected.
Juxtaposition 2:
The entire case of Juxtaposition 1: is further contrasted against,
"Is, the pigs' unstable mother."
The contrast is in the fact that the real villain is an unexpected one, a elder sow.
Which is contrasted against the welfare are of her own offspring, something unusual for nurturing mothers to do.
Juxtaposition 3: The seriousness of the trial is contrasted with the defendants being pigs, as well as the the cost being sustained by the community to prosecute this trial.
